View Full Version : Any beginning knitters in Dallas?
02-26-2007, 09:14 PM
Just curious if there are any beginning knitters in the Dallas area that might meet for coffee and knitting (or something along those lines.) I'm attempting to teach myself to knit...I should just take a class but I guess I like the punishment of trying to teach myself.

:cheering: :cheering: :cheering: Yeah, a Dallas knitter!!!! I've been looking for a good knitting group, but havn't found one yet. I live in the Lewisville area near Vista Ridge Mall. Where are you? As there is usually a Starbucks around every corner I'm sure we could meet in the middle and knit! I've been knitting almost a year. I'm no pro, but we could learn from each other! PM me and we'll talk more!

I'm in Dallas and have been knitting for about a month. I've joined the yahoo email list for the Dallas Stitch n Bitch, but I haven't made it to a meeting yet. I'd be interested in a meetup. I live in Dallas, off Mockingbird.

Hey Kayakgirl and Markette -
We should plan a meetup sometime. . . PM me your email addresses (if you don't mind. . .) and we'll try to find a central location and time! I'm excited! Knitters!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

I am in Keller :-)
03-01-2007, 12:29 AM
Dovey, have you been to the yarn shop there in Keller? I don't live in the Dallas area, but I do have relatives living in Keller, and saw on the yarn shop map that there is a yarn store there. I was wondering if it's a good one?
03-01-2007, 12:38 AM
Actually I did not even know that a yarn shop existed in Keller!!!
03-01-2007, 01:06 AM
Well, phooey. Now I'm really embarrassed. I'm quite certain I did read somewhere online once that Keller had a yarn shop, but I just did a search, and looked at the map muse of yarn shops throughout the US, and couldn't find one listed for there.
Sorry to get your hopes up for nothing.

Hi Dovey! :waving:
Kayakgirl, Markette and I are planning a knitting get-together this Sunday in Grapevine. PM me your email address if you're interested and I'll give you the details. We would love it if you could join us!
03-01-2007, 11:05 AM
More the merrier..... :happydance:
03-01-2007, 05:05 PM
I Pm'ed you! :cheering:
03-01-2007, 06:29 PM
I live in colleyville and I am only 14 so I can't drive but it would be awesome to see if I could come sometime. Tell me how the first meeting goes and maybe I can come sometime! :cheering:
03-05-2007, 07:47 PM
Dovey & Markette - Had a blast xxx xxx xxx with you last night!
Kayakgirl - We missed you!
Let's do it again sometime real soon!
03-05-2007, 10:17 PM
Definitely! That was fun! Do you realize we were there four and a half hours and I never got a drink!? :??
03-06-2007, 12:04 PM
I have found that when I'm knitting I don't tend to set the needles down and get something to drink (or even drink it if I have it) either, but I was pounding down the coffee fraps on Sunday!
I'm definitely in for another meetup. :muah:
And I finished my socks last night!!
03-07-2007, 08:14 PM
JJ, what happened to Houston?????????? Did you defect to Cowboy-land?!? :roflhard:
03-08-2007, 11:08 AM
Arielluria, I'm close to Houston. :waving:
03-08-2007, 11:41 AM
:happydance: Howdy! ;) You're probably more than an hour from me though! I'm near the Woodlands. Where are you? It says "SE Houston".
03-08-2007, 11:46 AM
BTW, Brownishcoat, I love your blog. DD2 looks exactly like you! I added a link to your blog from mine, that way I won't have to try to remember where it is! I hope your dad's better.
03-08-2007, 01:41 PM
I'm in the Pasadena/Deer Park area. Woodlands is not too far; an hour drive in Houston is not too bad.
Thanks for the blog compliments! :muah:
Unfortunately, my dad is terminal. They started in-home hospice care yesterday. :pout:
Maybe we can think about getting together when things calm down a little.
03-08-2007, 02:47 PM
Let's do that! I'm sorry about your dad. You know, we're all terminal, I like to say. Which helps me remember to appreciate every moment (and every knitting stitch :teehee: because we never know when it will be our last). My prayers go out to you during this difficult time. I've been there.
My husband grew up in Deer Park area. Went to LaPorte High School (graduated '74)........he's much, MUCH older than I :teehee: (well, just one "much") ;)
03-08-2007, 03:09 PM
I started kindergarten in 1974! I think he's a little older than me, too. :teehee:

Anyone ready for another meetup?
Last time we talked about visiting some LYS. I've been wanting an excuse to head up to Plano to visit the Woolie Ewe (and lack of yarn is not an available excuse at the moment...), so I was thinking maybe we could meet there this Sat. March 17, at 3:30, and then head over to the Starbucks around the corner? Info below. Alternate time/location suggestions welcome.
The Woolie Ewe (green flag on map)
1301 Custer Road #328
Plano TX 75075
Open Sat. 10-4:30
Starbucks (red flag on map)
2024 15th St
03-12-2007, 12:05 PM
Hey Markette! I am sooooo there! I'm actually heading over to the Woolie Ewe in a few minutes - I have a new project that I'm dying to start and can't wait to get more yarn!!! :happydance: :happydance:
03-12-2007, 12:09 PM
Hey, since you're going anyway... mind doing the drive-by to see if it's a "good Starbucks"? From the Google map it looks like the same kind of stand-alone Starbucks we met in before.
03-12-2007, 12:12 PM
No problem! I'm on a mission for yarn and Starbucks stalking! :teehee: :teehee:
03-12-2007, 05:55 PM
The Starbucks isn't a stand-alone, but it has a lot of room.
Woolie Ewe was wonderful! I got 2 balls of 100% Bamboo yarn. I        it!!!
Can't wait to go back on Sat. . . I'll have more spending money! :teehee:
03-12-2007, 10:38 PM
Unfortunately, I will be unable to go to this meet-up! I will be flying to Europe that day.
03-13-2007, 10:54 AM
Thanks for checking that out, JJ!
We'll miss you, Dovey :pout: but have fun on your trip! And bring back pictures!
03-14-2007, 07:54 PM
Dovey - Have a great time in Europe! Can't wait to hear all about it.
Markette - I don't know if I can wait until Saturday!!!!! :teehee:
03-31-2007, 03:29 PM
Okay - Markette, kayakgirl, and Dovey -
I think we need another knitting day! Any ideas when?
03-31-2007, 03:40 PM
So, did you gals meet up at Woolie Ewe on St.Patrick's day? Nosy...uh..I mean inquiring minds want to know. :teehee:
04-01-2007, 02:51 PM
We sure did and it was awesome! That is the BEST LYS!!!!
04-01-2007, 03:54 PM
I live a hundres or so miles away from Dallas, but whenever dh and I have to make a trip over there, I always finagle a trip to the Woolie Ewe. It's actually the only yarn shop I've ever visited, as we don't have one in our town (though we do have a craft store which carries a few nice yarns).
I love the bargain room in Woolie Ewe. I always come home with a bagful of marked down yarns. :happydance:
04-02-2007, 01:36 AM
Okay - Markette, kayakgirl, and Dovey -
I think we need another knitting day! Any ideas when?
You *know* I'm always up for it. Next weekend would be fine for me, but it is Easter, so that might be a problem for some. Should we do it the weekend after?
Do we want to hit another LYS, or just head to a Starbucks?
04-02-2007, 09:31 AM
I would love to get together again. I already have plans for the next two Sundays but if Sunday works well for everyone else I will try to make it to the next one.
Have a great day.
04-04-2007, 02:28 PM
There's a Stitch n Bitch this weekend. I always mean to go, but never have. Should we crash it, and then organize our smaller group meetup at a later date when more of us can make it?
Stitch-n-Bitch is this Sunday, April. 8th from 2:30-5:30pm at Cafe
Express on McKinney Ave in Dallas (Uptown area)!
Below is the address/phone number; I've also included directions
from I-75 and Lemmon Ave. for those who don't do mapquest.
Dallas, TX 75204
214.999.9444 - 214.954.0222 fax
From I-75 (Central Expressway) exit Lemmon Ave. Turn west on Lemmon
Ave. You will pass a few lights; turn left on Cole (one light past
McKinney). Turn left onto Bowen St.
Cafe Express is at the corner of Bowen and McKinney; parking lot is
in back of bldg.
Hope to see y'all there!
04-05-2007, 04:25 PM
That sounds awesome! :cheering: :cheering: I'm in!!!
Markette - I want to start socks using magic loop but am having a little trouble. Could I get a little help from you on Sunday? :wall:
04-06-2007, 10:26 AM
Awesome -- It'll be much easier for me to psych myself into going if I know someone there already. Large groups of people I don't know make me nervous.
And of course I'd be happy to help with your socks!
04-07-2007, 06:56 PM
I'll see you there!
05-21-2007, 06:30 PM
If there are any more meetings count me in. I have no one to knit with. I am new to Texas and none of the people I have met and hang out with at church knit. Also a good LYS would be nice, any suggestions.. :blooby:
05-21-2007, 07:34 PM
Hello to all the Dallas knitters! I have loved hanging out and knitting with you, but I am moving to Houston this weekend. I'll miss everyone and the BEST LYS, the Woolie Ewe!
05-23-2007, 08:15 PM

I know this thread is a little old, but I just found it. Are any of you still meeting? I live in Lewisville and think it would be great to get together with some knitters.
