Is it possible to use a circular needle as a stitch holder?

Yep, that's why they have those plastic caps in the sets. ;)

I frequently have several circs in my knitting as holders. Either that or yarn for a lot of stitches.

I just thread a contrasting color yarn through the stitches and tie the ends together. Works for me.

I even use a paper clip. Those are great, you just shape them to whatever you need.

I just used that way, because I always misplace my stitch holders, so this way, I always have one with me.
