Need help to understand Berocco Pattern

I am new to this forum and need some help to understand an interpretation of a pattern.

and the pattern stitch is:
PATTERN STITCH

Rows 1 and 3: Knit.
Rows 2 and 4: Purl.
Row 5: * K1, yo twice, rep from * across, end k1.
Row 6: Knit, dropping yo’s.


BACK

Skirt: With size 13 needles, using A, cast on 97(101-105-109-115) sts. Work in Pat St, dec 1 st each side every other RS row twice, then every RS row 17 times – 59(63-67-71-77) sts. Work even if necessary until piece measures 12” from beg, end on RS.
The part is do not understand is when it says to :

So...my question is what row do i start my decrease in the pattern? Is it row 1 and 3 or 3 and 5, because the pattern says every other RS row twice, so i was not sure if i start it with my first knit row or every other RS row which would be the third and 5th?

I read it as starting the decreases right away, so you'll decrease on 1, 3 & 5.

But I'm a little confused to! :shrug: Hopefully someone could confirm or give us a better idea!

Well it says work in patern stch so I would do one pattern stch then do decreases. And I think they want you to decrease right away so you get that bell shape to it.

Every other RS row would be R 3 and 7.

Ok..let me see if I understand :wall:

So the first time I decrease at each end will be rows 3 and then row 7.

thats all of the decreases for the RS twice...
then

every RS row after row 7 would be 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 etc... ? until i have done this 17 times and have 63 stitches on my needle?

So my question is for the decrease row is this: ( i am at row 11)

For the beginning of the decrease row, I will knit 2 together, then k1, do the yarnovers and then when I end the row, do I knit 2 together for the decrease and then end the row with a k1? Or do I do the knit 2 together for the very end of the row?

You can do the final decrease on either the last two stitches or 1 stitch in from the end. But if you're going to move it in 1 st, you might think about doing that at the beginning of the row, too so they match.
