View Full Version : OT: Son's hand crushed in accident - GOOD NEWS! UPDATE P5

My son's right hand was crushed under one and a half tons of pressure today, in an industrial accident, which took place at his job in a lithography studio. He has many deep cuts on the back of his hand, and the lower bone of his thumb is crushed for sure. He has been stitched and casted, but we see the orthopedic surgeon soon, to determine what, if anything, more needs to be done for him.

Fortunately, he did not lose his hand, which can and has happened in accidents such as these, and will eventually recover the use of his thumb. No permanent harm is done, thank GOD. He is resting now, but please pray for his continued recovery.

It looks like it is all going to work out fine in the end, but his father and I were quite shaken (as was my son) by this. Thank you, in advance, for all your prayers.

I will definitely keep him in my thoughts and hope he has use of his right hand in the future, and that he has no permanent damage. Send my "Feel better" to your family, and let them know that I know what they're going through, as we had my grandfather in my hospital about a year ago, but I know it's not the same. You can get through this, I know you will!

That's terrible! Was it his dominant hand? Can he still use the remote for the tv?

Seriously though, I do hope he recovers well.

Oh no!

my healingest thoughts to him!

P.S. Please make sure his ortho is a fellowship trained hand surgeon or at least board certified and experienced in hand surgery!

THANK YOU ALL soooooo much for your prayers! :muah: You are such a blessing!

Just said a prayer...what's his name?

His name is Adam. He is 24 years old, will be 25 in May.

He just woke up to eat a bite and take some more antibiotics and pain meds. We'll have him see the orthopedic doc tomorrow.

(Pray for me too, I've got work waiting for me that HAS to get done, and I'm at home, taking care of him, NOT at work, doing it...yikes! But he is my priority... God will make a way for me to get it all done.)

That's terrible! Was it his dominant hand? Can he still use the remote for the tv?

Yes, it was his dominant hand, he is right handed. Not gonna be using the tv remote for a while. Got a pic of his ouchie. You can see how swollen it got - after it stopped being FLAT. Won't show you under the bandages, tooooooo gory. My poor husband about passed out while they were stitching him up. It was pretty grusome. Thought I was gonna have to carry them both home. :teehee:

Praying for you all right now.

It's always worse when it happens to your child, than it would be if it happened to you, huh? That parenting instinct kicks in and you can almost drive yourself crazy with worry.

I have broken my arms three times, my nose twice, several sprains, and put my arm through a glass door, cutting so deeply it revealed the tendon...and never cried. My dd goes in for a shot, and I cry harder than she does!

Hang in there...it looks hopeful!

As a 24 year old, it can be a little difficult to listen :teehee: I broke a bone or two in my right hand a few years ago and had to be casted up. Wasn't all that much fun, without a doubt (nice red big cast, fingers pointing down, little finger use, oh yeah). But, knowing that he will recover, is the positive in all of this. It could have been worse, and thank God it wasn't.

Your family, and Adam are in my thoughts  please keep us updated!

We got good news at the ortho doc today! Adam's crushed metacarpal bone at the base of his thumb will not require any surgery or pins to heal properly. The joints at either end of the bone are in good shape, and all the shards fell right in place, not scattered around. So it can heal on its own with a good casting - which was also done today. He'll have it removed in a week to take out the stitches, and then put another one on for continued healing. He's going to be just fine!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS! This is proof that they work!!!
