I recently bought the book knit 2 together, and I'm dying to make the cotton pants. The only problem is that I googled online linie clip and discovered that it's way too expensive for me to use. $90 for me to knit a pair of pants? I don't think so...

Does anyone know of a good substitution for this yarn? Or has anyone attempted the pants in knit 2 together? Any help would be great

I want to make them as well! They are so cute and I was eyeing them the other day but the yarn was way too pricey for my grad student budget. I think Shine Worsted from KnitPicks might be a good and inexpensive option. It's guage is 4.5-5 stitches per inch on 6-9 needles and the yarn called for gets 4..5 stitches per inch on size 7 needles so we would be able to get guage.

It is here: http://www.knitpicks.com/Shine+Worsted_YD5420140.html

It comes in a variety of beautiful colors too.

I haven't worked with the Shine Worsted but I have knit with the Shine Sport and it is very soft and creates a really nice knitted fabric.

Main Line from KnitPicks might work as well.

I've just come across the Shine Worsted in my search for a substitute for Schaefer Laurel mercerized cotton. The Schaefer would be about $70 worth for one toddler dress! :thud: $25 is much more palatable for me.

Thanks for the help. A lot of stuff in that book uses insanely pricey yarn, but the patterns are so cute. I'll probably use the knitpicks.
