Thanks Holly. I think you're right. I think I should jot down what thread I see things in in here and I wind up having to do searches. Hive of activity!

:verysad: I am so disappointed in what's befallen blanket #4.
I hope that those of you who are devoted to it don't lose heart.

Shandeh

I haven't lost my heart.

The blanket will turn up sometime, somewhere. And hopefully, whoever gets it will finish it and enjoy it.

We were going to give it to charity anyway. So if it ends up in someone's home, we've accomplished our goal. :teehee:

I'm starting the new blanket today, using some vintage variegated yarn in my stash. Purple, Teal, Pink - PRETTY!

The only circular needle I have left is size 10, so that's what we'll have to use. I think I'll cast on 280 stitches instead of the usual 300, since the needle is bigger.

So what ended up happening to the blanket? Should I assume that this one is lost too since you're starting a new one?

So disappointing to see.

So what ended up happening to the blanket? Should I assume that this one is lost too since you're starting a new one?

So disappointing to see.

Yes, now two of our blankets have been eaten by the post office. :pout:

The first one was sent to the Netherlands, but never made it back. (She was the 2nd knitter, so the blanket had not really grown that much.)
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1384/539900320_6a6b1d4d82_m.jpg

The second one lost was our 4th blanket. This one had 5 knitted portions, so it wasn't big yet, but still some time had been invested in it.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1300/538101522_a5887dcbfe_m.jpg

So, I guess we should each mail our packages First Class or Priority Mail, so we can add 65 cents for Delivery Confirmation. That will help a bit with keeping tabs on the blankets. Plus, we will be able to search for them in the postal system that way.

If you use a Priority Mail (http://www.usps.com/all/shippingandmailing/23daypackages.htm) Flat Rate Box, the rates are not that bad.

You can also write "HANDLE WITH CARE" on the package, if you want.

That's just crazy! I ship stuff all the time (for work and non-work) and I have never lost a package. Maybe it's because I tend to use the UPS store?

I'm and sending good karma to you on this one so it won't join the fate of the others!

Shandeh
08-02-2007, 02:30 PM
I agree. It IS crazy. I ship stuff for eBay and KH all the time, and only one of my packages has disappeared. (That's among about 500 packages)

I would think that UPS will be a good option too. They are good at following through on their deliveries.

I wish I had news but nothing has turned up here. I swear I think its the post office here in Midland... I have had several packages lost on the way TO me and a few that I have mailed out just never seem to get where they need to. I guess this town is more concerned with football and oil. :(

I agree. Maybe from now on, the Oddball Blanketeers :teehee: should try to send the packages UPS so that there isnt much of a chance that it gets lost again. I wouldn't send it regular mail anymore if possible, it's probably not a good way of sending the blankets. Just a suggestion...

Marvin and I have had trouble receiving packages lately. Two of my eBay packages and two of my KH packages were RETURNED TO SENDER!!! And I never even SAW them! :pout:

We took evidence to the post office yesterday, and spoke to the supervisor there. We let her keep it, so she could confront our postman with it.

She said that our mailman is on vacation right now, and someone else is covering for him, so that could be the problem. Time will tell.

Well you know the saying "stuff" happens. I'll be happy to knit again when it gets my turn. Besides it's all going for a good cause anyway. Maybe someone will get the one we had already and work on it themselves? Or maybe they shared it with someone. You never know. It could be touching someone's heart right now!

So bring on the new blanket. I'm doing #4 and #5 and I have plenty of yarn.. and heart :)

~danielle~

PS sorry life has thrown tomatoes at us lately and I've been soo busy! I'm still here though :)

Shandeh
08-25-2007, 01:30 AM
Yay! :cheering:

The next knitter on the list is REVS, but I'm not sure if she is ready for it right now. I usually wait for the person who is knitting to let me know when they complete their portion, then I check to see if the next knitter is available.

Sometimes they have personal issues that prohibit them from taking the blanket at that time, so I have to go to the knitter after them.

So, I don't really have an answer for you right now.

Shandeh, you used size 10 needles and 280 stitches for this one, right? (I'll look for it in a previous post later)

I made a memo (yellow sheet) with all the information on it.
Is it gone? :pout:

It should be 300 stitches, but maybe I only did 280 since I was using a larger needle.

You can check the needle with a gauge. Do you have one?

Wow, being a restaurant-owner's wife makes one's weekends waaaay busier than I thought... Sorry for the delay with posting!

The blanket is gorgeous and so soft. The only picture I managed to get of it is from my crappy camera on my cell phone... It really doesn't do the blanket justice, but here it is anyways. I'll see if I can borrow a digi cam from someone for better pics sometime.

I picked out some nice yarn in a pretty green to go next to the reddish pinkish goodness that pandaca knit with. Planning to do some basketweave or woven stitch, starting tonight. I hope I can stay our of the frog pond that pandaca had to go to with the basketweave...

BTW, lissalue, what yarn did you use? It's so soft and has a really nice sheen to it... yummy!

If you don't mind, count the stitches again, and see if it's 300. But, I can't for the life of me figure out why it would have grown! :??

I got home from work today and sitting beside my knitting chair was a box from the USPS. the blanket arrived today in Canada and it made it just fine. I get paid Friday and need to go shopping this weekend so I will pick up some yarn to go with the blanket. And Jeanius thank you for the Chocolates I will have to hide them from my family and babysitter or I wont get any.

I got my yarn for the blanket yesterday. I got Phentex dynasty. It is a worsted weight made in Canada. The color is listed as Secret Garden. It is a multi colored yarn that I think matches well. It has the same color as Jeanius used and some blues as well as grey. I will post a pic when I get it knitted. And I get paid when my two weeks is up so I will be able to pass it on easily.

Shandeh
12-09-2007, 11:28 PM
Hi photolady! :waving:

I think the postage ranges from 5 to 10 dollars, depending on how much the package weighs, and where it's going. Some people add lots of extra goodies to their package, so it ends up weighing more.

Also, we always add delivery confirmation when sending the packages now, because we have had a couple of our projects get lost in the mail. Since we've started doing delivery confirmation, we've never lost a package.

It is on its way - sorry I did not get a picture taken - we have acquired a new family member who needs alot of love - she is a senior who lived with a gentleman who was blind - so she was with him 24/7. We are all adjusting. My co-worker did not feel able to keep her - and was uncomfortable with her going to strangers. Her ideal situation would be someone who is home during the day so hopefully she can adapt because I work - but I do have Cooper to be here with her.

Anyway - hopefully we will have good news on blanket soon!

The blanket made it here today safe and sound! I was surprised it is much brighter in real life than the pictures. I had a yarn chosen but now I am rethinking it. I'm searching through my stash and stitchionary for the perfect yarn and stitch. I'll post pictures when I am done.

Thanks for the pens DeAnzaJig! I am a bit of a pen nut/dork. I'm always searching for the perfect pen. I haven't tried this kind yet.

Yay! Another safe trip!! Our blanket is doing well. :)

And Holly, you're right about the color of the blanket. It changes appearance with every photograph. You never know how it's gonna look. It's a chameleon! :teehee:

I was looking through the journal today and noticed our blanket that our blanket was started one year ago yesterday.
I started my section with a medium blue I had in my stash. I think the yarn is Berella so soft from one of my first projects ever almost 10 years ago. I'm using the same stitch (the loop pattern) I used on Oddball # 1. I'm feeling very nostalgic with this blanket.

Here it is!! I ended up doing 2 sections since I was keeping it a little longer. The first section I did was using Berella So Soft and the loop pattern . The second section was made using Bernat Camo in Desert Sand and the double woven pattern. I'll be sending it to BostonBecca very soon. I just have to get a box!

UGGGH!!! I went to the PO today to send the blanket and it was closed! There was a sign on the door something about a small electrical fire and that the PO would hopefully be open in a day or two. I guess I will be sending from a different PO tomorrow. I'll let you know when it is mailed!

Hello my friends!

I know you will be pleased to hear that I have FINALLY completed all the work on our beautiful Oddball Blanket #4!!
:cheering: :woohoo: :cheering:

Now, it is ready to be donated to charity.

I have decided to give our beautiful blanket to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

Pine Ridge Reservation is the poorest spot in the USA. The average life expectancy for residents is only 47 for males and early 50s for women. The unemployment rate is 90% and the teen suicide rate is four times the national average. Basics such as running water, heat and food are scarce for many residents let alone jobs and health care. These challenges are particularly difficult to deal with given the geographical isolation of the Rez and the incredibly harsh climate.

I have communicated with the main contact (Pam Little Sparrow Wingard), and she is very pleased that we are giving them the blanket.
 cloud9
She said to be sure to share this message with all of you:
I think you and the other knitters are special angels. You will be remembered in the prayers of my Family and the Lakota family that receives this afghan.
Gentle Blessings,
Pam Little Sparrow Wingard

That is a most awesome and generous home that will always welcome something like that. I can't think of a better place to send it.

Shandeh, would you mind sending me the contact info for Pam? I've got some pieces I was looking to donate and that need a home desperately.

Shandeh

Right now, they are collecting knit or crochet afghan squares, which can be sent to:

Pam Little Sparrow Wingard
16854 London Avenue
Baton Rouge, LA 70819

You could probably go ahead and send any of your handknit or crocheted pieces. They need things for all ages and sizes.

If you use wool yarn, please attach a note about that.
