I have an interview Monday afternoon at the local Joann's Supercenter to be a knitting instructor. I am so excited! The preliminary discussion was very, very promising and I think I have it in the bag, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I would LOVE to teach knitting in person. I've been teaching people to knit socks online, but teaching in person is totally my thing!

Plus I'll get employee discounts and get to attend any other class for free! Woohoo!

I really just wanna teach, but yes, the discount is a nice bonus. But not so much for the yarn, as for the knitting patterns, and admittedly, for the quilting and sewing supplies. My local Joann's has a HUGE quilting department.

Thank you everyone! I will certainly let you all know how it goes!! I'm taking in some of my best knitting as samples... socks, fair isle, aran, lace and entrelac. *crossing fingers*

Seriously! They would have to be insane not to give you the job. You're the famous Silver!

Btw, the sock tutorial is AWESOME. My roomates using it now for her first try at socks and dpns :) Even SHE thinks it's easy to follow and that's saying something.

They would have to know absolutely nothing about knitting not to hire you. Event the pictures of the stuff you knit are absolutely amazing. But, since you asked, the very best of luck to you. You will make an amazing teacher.

Hey Silver - if you aren't already, what about bringing in your sock tutorial to show them? And then a copy of all of OUR well-deserved praise and GRATITUDE! for being such a great teacher - and we can't even see you LIVE!!

What I wouldn't give ...

You should include the url to this thread in your resume.

Put it under "References."

I second the "If they don't hire you, they are insane" sentiment.

I love your tutorials and think you are the master!

:notworthy:

I can only hope that after I complete my CYC correspondence course that I become half the teacher you are.

Best,
Susan

oh, Silver, just stumbled upon this.
Sounds like your interview is RIGHT NOW... I'm crossing fingers while typing and sending all good thoughts and vibes your way.

Your tutorial has convinced me to try socks! And that's saying a LOT. While I haven't tried it yet (still working through the other commitments on the needles), it makes it looks like knitting socks is something I can do!!! I even have some yarn and dpns already.
I would love to take classes from you in person, what a treat would that be. I might even try entrelac then... ;-) Those Floridians are lucky people to have you in their midst - and soon at their local JoAnn's I'm sure!

BEST OF LUCK!!! :muah:

Ingrid, well... I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. LOL But in the mean time, the education coordinator will let me use any yarn that has already been written off for my demo knitting purposes. So, free yarn IS the good yarn. :D
