My daughter will be 4 in August, but she wears a 3T. She is looooong waisted, but on thin.

She saw a picture of the Monica tank and wants me to make her one very badly...

It is supposed to be knitted on size 6 needles.

If I knit the size 4 on size 5 needles, do you think that would fit her?

Hmmn? So confused about modifying patterns!

Swatch it and see what your stitches per inch are, that should give you an idea. Honestly, though, fit isn't a HUGE issue with this since it isn't shaped. If it's a little big on her, it will fit longer. :) Just measure to figure out how long to make the straps- I had to shorten the straps on the one I made for my 5yo because it fell a little too low on her.

if she has a long torso you can always just knit a few more rows on the front and back section. you can measure her from shoulder to waist, and compare to the measurements for the body plus strap.....

I think the thing I am more concerned about is the width of the body. Since it's a tank, I don't want it to be too baggy...don't want her flashing the kids in her preschool class!

I just saw one in the whatcha knittin forum that used elastic at the top (knit in?) to keep it tighter. This pattern is very amenable to changes....
