I absolutely avoid purling if at all possible, so I knit it in the round. I also didn't have a 4y/o around to measure straps, so I left them off and added an eleastic draw-string. It's actually about the same color as the body of the shirt, but shows lighter in the pic... darn camera phone!

The body is blue (can't remember the exact name) cotton ease and the ruffle is Baby Bee sweet delight pomp in ladybug.

I thought I'd pass on some information about the elastic tie in the project....... It does not work. :pout:

I made two of these for my middle DGD's and since their mother is laundry illiterate, I thought I'd run one through my machines, the other washed by hand.

The elastic on both became very stiff and would not stay tied in front. You could measure and make the elastic the correct length and sew the ends together (in otherwords, use it like you're supposed to) and it may work fine, but tieing it does NOT work.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments.... now I'm off to contemplate what to do next... :??

That stinks! Maybe you could make the shoulder straps as instructed, but make them extra long so they can be tied into bows on the shoulders?

I thought about that, but if i knit it I wanted to use the same yarn as the ruffle and it is SUPEERRR stretchy. My youngest DS(15) suggested weaving ribbon for a tie and my youngest DD(12) suggested shoe laces either woven through to tie in front or sewn on to tie at the shoulder. Now which one to choose without hurting feelings??

You said you made two of them, right? You could do one of each! Then just include a note in the package saying that the ideas came from your kiddos. :)
