need help finding KP replacements for yarn in patterns

hey all! i got a giftcard to kp for mommies day, and i'm dying to spend it. problem is, when it comes to subbing yarns, i'm horrible at it! i just don't know enough to feel comfortable making that decision on my own! so i'm coming to the knittinghelp goddesses for help!!! :muah:

so here's what i'm hoping to knit:

Green Gable (http://www.zephyrstyle.com/catalog/item.cfm/2367447/2628822) and Rusted Root (http://www.zephyrstyle.com/catalog/item.cfm/2367447/3289215) calls for Brown Sheep Cottong Fleece.
can i use Shine Sport or Cot Lin as replacements?

Orangina (http://glampyreknits.tripod.com/glampyrephotos/id92.html) calls for Rowan 4 ply Cotton. what would i use for this one? (either KP or michael's/joann's/hobby lobby/etc)

Indigo Ripples Skirt (http://www.interweaveknits.com/backissues/SP_07.asp) calls for Rowan Denim. any suggestions for that one? (either KP or michael's/joann's/hobby lobby/etc)

shine sport will sub nicely for cotton fleece. the springyness or drape may be a little different, but the yarn weight is a very close match

as for the other two...hmmm, i would email the pattern maker for orangina about suggestions for subs.

lionbrand cotton ease was subbed on the skirt.

Lion Brand Cotton Ease is a good sub for the Brown Fleece Cotton Sheep. It has a very similar feel, and you could get gauge with a little bit of swatching.

note that cotton ease is a worsted weight and Cotton Fleece is DK weight.

I think that Cotlin and Shine Sport would be too lightweight for Green Gable....it has a gauge of 20 st/4 inches....which the Cotton Fleece works for. I think that Cotton Fleece is closer to worsted than DK. You might be better off with Shine Worsted if you want the same look as the Cotton Fleece for the Green Gable. Your fabric would be looser and airier with the Cotlin/Shine Sport than with the Cotton Fleece.

Try KALs here or on Craftster to read what other paople have used as subs and whether they liked them, also search Google for the pattern name, you should get results from blogs of other people knitting them and posting about whether they subbed and how they liked what they chose.
