My vote is for Hedera!

Ok swappers, I've been trying to find something to knit for my second package and would like some opinions from you all. If you were my pal would you like either of these?

Hedera (http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring06/PATThedera.html)
Lace-Edged Head Hugger (http://www.headhuggers.org/patterns/kpatt18.htm)

I thought I'd take a sort of informal poll to get an idea withough actually spoiling it for my pal.:teehee:

I know I would kill for a pair of handknit socks, especially because I have never knit a pair of them. I will soon however.

I think they are sooo luxurious. Therefore, I vote for Hedera.

I do not want my swapper to be at all pressured by this post to knit me socks. Please, feel no pressure! I mean it now!

Katie - my vote is for Hedera, but I like them both, and I'm sure your swappee will like whatever you make for her!

Leah - Wow!! Great stuff! And I'd have eaten the chocolates ASAP, too. :teehee:

Charmy - I LOVE that colorway of Lorna's Laces. So pretty! You're very luck.

kaydee- i vote hedera, but only cause i am going to knit the lacey edge hat myself with some handdyed, so if it was forme, i would love the socks.... though, really, another hat would be lovely too!

Hmmm...I didn't even think about that:??. I'll try to figure out something clever. I think I'm going for the socks. Now here's another question (I hope I'm not too pesky with all of this:teehee:) I have some yarn that I've been wanting to dye so I was thinking about dying it a color my swapee likes for the socks. The only prob is that its 100% wool, and not superwash. Would you mind having socks that you had to handwash or should I find another yarn?

As for ME~ If someone had went to the trouble to make HANDMADE lacy socks.. I wouldn't mind handwashing them b/c they are a small laundry item (compared to a sweater) and I woudn't mind a bit~!

i like both patterns (and wear size 9 if it's me!) and wool is cool with me, as long as you put a tag on there letting me know ahead of time!
i think i'm gonna have to shop for things for the second box. i cut my finger tip bad last night with a knife, so my knitting is out of commission for a while. at least i hope ....not being able to knit is killin me!:pout:

so many good packages! i love surprise sweets! chocolate is always a treat! maybe i'll send some tea...or coffee....hmmm

Such awesome yarn!

Sorry about your finger Megan! hope the knitting can continue.

Kaydee I agree if you put a note that it needs to be hand washed I would love hand knit socks. As to being clever, my swapper asked me for all sorts of measurements, hands, head and feet. Luckily s/he didnot ask for the big measurements so no thongs here.

Leah22b
06-21-2007, 04:57 PM
btw - I think a bunch of us should ask there partner their shoe size ad foot measurements so Kaydee can ask as well, without her swappee knowing who she is.:happydance::whistle::happydance:

Wow everyones packages and look great. What great additions to your stashes.

I'm a size 9 shoe. Hand knitted socks would be quite a treat.

I feel my package I sent is so inferior to those that some have received. I truely hope my pal enjoys everything. I'll try harder on the next package, PROMISE.

My day was made wonderful by this:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1135/584282221_505da3d3a4.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/adallen/584282221/)

My camera did not at all do justice to the amazing colors of these yarns. The Wool of the Andes is an incredibly deep purple (Hyacinth). It is very regal I love it! The Shadow is is a fantastic burnt orange (Campfire) that is going to be a beautiful accent that pulls out the red in my strawberry hair (I'm thinking in maybe a shawl). And the Andean Treasure is a strong earthy green (Moss). Not only do red heads love green, but this is so soft that the best idea that I've got for it right now is to knit a swatch to lay on my pillow and rub my cheek on every night before bed.

Thank you! You spoil me! I am definitely going to be selfish with these. I plan I plan on only using them in stuff for me.:inlove:

... oh ya I almost forgot... I'm shoe size 9 and I would definitely hand wash gift socks.

What a great load of stash items everyone has.

I agree about putting a note in with socks, that's a good idea. I wear size 8, seeing as everyone is putting there shoe size in.

I've started shopping for the 2nd box, the item I've decided to knit is only small so I'll be putting more yarn in. I've seen a pattern I think she might like, but not sure if I should go ahead, hate for her to feel she HAD to make it up. What would you guys do? I've sent the 1st package out, but I'm so nervous I hope she likes it.

And finally a how to question, I have a lovely skien of yarn here (see my package picture) Can I knit it like that or do I have to do something with it? It's my first skien,.

Hello everyone. I received my yarn about a week ago and could not get good pictures of my new stash. Well...guess what? I got better (not great) pictures.

My spoiler is the best. She emails me and we have great conversations. I can't wait to find out who this wonderful knitrix is. Okay enough talking. I'll let the yarn speak for itself - oh and I received two bags of Ghiradelli chocolate - YUMMO!:muah:

Nobones, why don't you post a link or picture of what you are going to make and everyone here can tell you whether or not it is something they would use and then you don't have to ask your person specifically. If they reply either way, don't tell us what you are doing because that could give it away.

I love everyone's boxes so far. I am sending mine as soon as I can get to the post office, since I have everything for it.

I've been out this afternoon to look at the pattern again. I've decided NOT to get as it's too like some other items this person has made.

I've have a couple of choices of what to knit, which would you guys prefer (If any?)

From this link, the small cape, or the beaded shrug.

http://www.englishyarns.co.uk/rowan_beads_buttons_and_lace.html

or a tank top made from bulky wool. It's a pattern from Rowan 'The next big thing' but they don't have a picture of the item.

Everyone is making me nervous, some of these things you guys are making are wonderful. But I couldn't possibly get something like that made in a month, let alone have it look that wonderful.

I am thinking more yarn for the second package plus more goodies. Maybe a knitted coaster, I could handle that!

Sock size, right one an 8, left one a 7.5. I know, I never understood why either.

Nobones, I wish I could find that book here in the USA. I LOVE that pillow. Where can I purchase this book?????

http://www.englishyarns.co.uk/rowan_beads_buttons_and_lace.html

Does anyone know of a pretty ROLL pillow pattern similar to that one in that book??????

Hubby bought it from Ebay for me. They had more than one copy on there at the time. If you are having problems getting it you could send me the money and I'll get it for you and post it on.

I think I will include the yarn label with the "item" so she knows what the fiber is. I think that's a good idea don't you?

I thought so! - I've saved a label from one of the skeins I'm working from for my swap pal - so she knows what it is and how to wash it.

YUMMMMMYYYY!!!! Nice score, Sandy!!!!!

LOL, ya'll are funny, I've already decided what I'm knitting for my pal, and it's from Spring IK, not the THONG (it's online as a free pattern (http://www.interweaveknits.com/freepatterns/lingerie.asp) if anyone wants to knit one, LOL!) and not socks, I'm taking a socknitting break!! I'll show ya when I'm done!

I thought I'd put this question here, I'm about to cast on for my first pair of socks, I'm using the lovely skien (or is in hank?) of Knit Picks Gloss, do I have to do anything special, or can I just go ahead and knit it up?

By the way, I've decided what to make my swapper, so come on ladies don't be shy.... Small, Medium, Large, Or don't want either think of something else?

To get things going I hope to one day be a small, but then I'm not my secret swapper so it doesn't matter.

G J
06-23-2007, 05:07 PM
And finally a how to question, I have a lovely skien of yarn here (see my package picture) Can I knit it like that or do I have to do something with it? It's my first skien,.

Most people wind a hank into a center pull ball (or at least a ball), but if it's a center-pull skein, leave it.

Oh, and HAVE FUN KNITTING with it!

Everyone is getting such great stuff. This is the first place I come to when I log on to KH - I love seeing eveyone's packages. This is so much fun. Not only to I get to shop for yarn for my swappee but I got the most beautiful yarn from my swapper, and even more important than that, I made a wonderful new friend. And, I love reading about how everyone is so carefully planning what to send to their swappee. We have the best people on KH!

Anyone that is reading this thread that did not participate this time should really think about it for the next round. You will have a blast!

My Swapper: I probably won't get your package until July 3 because the address you sent it to has had its mail stopped because everyone is on vacation. My stepmom is picking up the mail when she gets back and will bring the package down here, but she isn't coming until July 3rd. So, my package is probably at the post office there, but unavailable to me right now. It's torture for me and probably not pleasant playing the waiting game to see my reaction for you, but unavoidable at the moment. I'm sorry! I am sure everything is wonderful, and if it helps, we can pretend I got it and I love everything, because I am sure I will!

Secret Swapper you are the best!:muah: I stopped and picked up my package at the post office today after work.

Inside I found some wonderful new yarns for me to try--
Araucania Nature Cotton in deep rose
Cascade Jewel Hand Dyed in deep purple
Silk Napalese yarn in mint green
2 skeins of Schoeller Stahl sock yarn in blue, orange, yellow, and white

She also sent me some great stitch markers and a pattern for the Lotus Blossom Tank by Sharon Shoyi.

Also in the in the package might just be the clue to finding out just who is my secret swapper.

I just need everyone's help----does anyone know who these beautiful kiddies belong to?
Their picture was on the front of the card my swapper sent me. Something else that might help you with remember who they belong to is the package was mailed from Vernonia, Oregon, USA.

It's not cheating asking for a little help figuring out who you are is it?

I am hoping to get a circular needle long enough that I can try out silver ML socks tutorial. I plan to use this yarn since she was so nice enough to put it into 2 balls for me!

Hi Friends, you all know me, but by another name.

Since Snephanie (who organized this whole thing) had no secret swapper, I took it on. I'm not posting as myself here, to try to keep myself a secret.

I have just sent her a box #1. (gosh I hope she likes it)

But, I am an advanced beginner knitter, and I don't know what I should do for her for Box #2.

(for my original swappee- no worries- I got yours done already!!!)

I have nice natural yarns available to me (some cotton, some bamboo, some wool blends) but I'm lacking in a nice idea. (don't want to repeat what my original pal is getting- or is that silly?)

If you have an idea, or know what she would like (that I could do) could you pm me? or email me at knitting2013 (at) gmail (dot) com
I'm pretty sure I enabled emails.

(or if you want to contribute something to box # 2; I'd be happy to collect things)

TIA, the yarn elf

I would consider myself an advanced knitter and I am really excited about if I get a knitted item, even though my swopper is worried it won't be good enough for me. It doesn't have to be felted to hide mistakes, if it has had as much thought put into it as her box (pics soon) it will be in colours and a fibre I like, and that's good enough for me, although from what I have seen of her knitting, it is very good.
If Snephenie is like me she will love any item she gets... even if it is not a lace shawl! Not just as a kindness or a patronising 'this was a really good effort and I appreciate the thought' but really really love it! I am not just being nice to the new knitter here!

P.S. I would probably be happy to contribute something. PM me... I live in NZ but we can sort out something for posting it...

ATTN SNEPHENIE: please post the same answers we all provided in our questionnaire, or: what colours and fibres do you like? Are there any techniques that you don't do (e.g. SC/FI, entrelac, knitting in the round)? Any colours, fibres, or items that you specifically dislike? We really want you to answer this because if you do not we will end up guessing and making things you don't like (despite their high quality). If that happens are hard work will have gone to waste, all because you didn't tell us that you hate pink, and our knitting is far too valuable to be wasted because we thought you would like your pressie in pink and you didn't tell us. If there is anything you don't like or wouldn't use... like warm hats and mittens because you live in a warm place, or if you never wear scarves... let us know. Anything you don't warn us off may arrive in your mailbox.
And post your measurements: feet, hands, head, height etc.

P.P.S. nobody offer me laceweight... I don't do girls.

I too am worried about knitting for my swapper. I'm worried it won't be good enough for her, so just in case I've got more goodies to with whatever I make. I've enjoyed shopping for my swapper, in fact I've had more fun shopping for them, than I have for myself in ages!

In 2 weeks I pick up the yarn to knit my item for my swapper. They didn't have enough so I've ordered in some special. Today, I got yarn to make the person who has ME as their partner something. She's been so love to me and has helped me more than she's knows. I really wanted to make her something too. (Don't shout swap person it's only a little something'.

So I'm having fun fun fun with the knitting projects at the moment.

Nobones, I am sure your swappee will love whatever you make her! I think any one of us would appreciate something someone put time and effort into. We are all knitters, we know how much effort it can be!

Ok...you asked for it :)

1. Your name (KH Screen name, first name, last name): snephenie/Steph

2. Your mailing address: My elfie has that

3. Your primary e-mail address: snephenie (colleenflewelling@yahoo.com) at gmail . com

8. Do you have any allergies to pets &/o smoke? None

9. Are you allergic or adverse to any types of yarns? just acrylic...LOL

10. Fiber preference? I love all fibers, love soft wools and bamboos and soys

11. Color preference? Really like all kinds...love blues/greens...blue/brown together is my favorite combo but pretty much love it all...

12. Other interest? I just learned to spin so I'm obsessed with that at the moment....

As far as my knitting..I've been knitting for about two years but haven't done some things, like fair isle or entralac or sweaters...

I'm also in southern california so mittens and the like would probably be wasted on me.

started working on my swappee's project last night. i hope they like it. my only worry is i'm making it with a less popular fiber...BUT, this is kinda like a freebee, because i made tons of other knit related things already. i just felt like doing some cables...and this was a good way to do it.
i'm hoping it'll be nice (and possibly washable if needed) when it's done.

I think I have figured out this pictures thing.

4 balls of gorgeous angora. I can't think what to use it for. Would mitten linings be too frivolous? And how cute is the bunny on the label? (apparent cuteness may be proportional to recipient's joy)
The blue is 80% alpaca, brushed, way soft. Mmm.
And she was kind enough to include Kool-Aid. Thank you YB.

The blue hank is cashmere laceweight. With matching needles from plumknits. 100 PERCENT cashmere people!

Okay, now the multicoloured peacock thing. I must say my pal really screwed up on this one. It is sock wool, according to the label. Superwash merino and silk. WTF? Who on earth would use merino AND SILK in such divine colours for freaken socks (Rebecca doesn't count)??? Sorry pal but this isn't going to be socks if I can think of anything nicer... ooh even mittens would be all right, the ones with angora lining maybe?

After that a ball of mohair... it's quite nice when good-quality mohair and got silk in it. I am reconsidering my dislike of mohair.

3 pairs of needles. One is already in use and making my life MUCH easier. But they all look like this. An adorable stitch marker and book.
And some patterns. That aqua one in the middle is already earmarked for my oma (grandma).
My pal is not just generous, kind, and thoughtful with great taste, she is also fun and interesting to talk to and sends me photos of her stuff and we talk about our knitting adventures. She has totally set a standard for swoppers. I can never join another swop because the person I get may be as cool as my swopper, but can never be better, and I can only be disappointed. Like the Rolling Stones concert when I was in the 4th row near the centre, tickets were cheap, I will never attend another concert because what's the point when you have experienced the 4th row? It's like Flowers For Algernon. Ruined me for other swops.
I love you swopper and I hope my pics work. You are a knitting goddess second only to Eunny. Thank you

Oh golly......I'm totally stumped as to what to put into my pals 2nd box :scratchinghead:. All i have is a couple of SMALL accessory (cable, yarn needle, stitch markers) I know we have until August 1st but i really have no idea what to give and i don't want to wait toll the very last minute...I don't have enough confidence in my knit work to make them something and there are so many patterns to choose from i don't know how and which ones i should pick out to put in a little pattern book i was thinking I could put together. I'm on a bag felting kick, so I made the clutch from One Skein and felted it. I may make a coordinating scarf if I can find yarn that coordinates but isn't too matchy.... the bag took only about 4 h of knitting time (spread over a couple days for me!) and is pretty cute if I do say so myself! LOL! I'm also toying with the idea of a table set: runner, napkin rings, cup cozy, tea cozy.... but I'm not sure I can do it all.

Becca, I love the kerchief and I saved the pattern. :)

Love the pamper me idea. I made something for my partner a bit ago and have an idea of how to package it. :) This has been such fun and really a HUGE lift to my spirits. :)

This has been such fun and really a HUGE lift to my spirits. :)

I second that. I have loved shopping for partner, it's been fun, and I haven't enjoyed shopping in ages. It also gave me a good kick up the bum to get on with some craft work, it keeps me occupied and stops my brain from dwelling (Things have been really bad medical wise).

And my swap partner is the sweetest soul. Her emails are always so nice and thoughtful and she with her kindness has kept my spirits up. Mike has commented he's seen an uplift since joining the swap. Thanks to my swap partner and 'Burt's bees' I've stopped biting my nails! I never thought that would happen, I'm 28 and have always been a nail biter, until now. I've bought myself some 'Strong & Grow', they are starting to look nice now.

I hope to join in a swap next next year, It's giving me a spring in my step and can't thank people enough for that.

I'm going now before I start crying.

Too late!

Too late for me too! I'm about to cry too. Good for you on stopping the nail biting...it is a HARD habit to break. I was in my late 20's when I stopped and I"m working on my daughter now.

I'm so glad this has been such an encouragement to you!:cheering:

I haven't heard from my swapper in a while either, but that's probably because she sent my package out so early!! I think mine was the first to arrive. Anyway, I am clueless about what might be in my second package but I am definitely looking forward to the surprise! :cheering:

So, HI SWAPPER!!! Hope all is well. Oh, and send me an email soon so I can give you my new address. :happydance:

to include a pic in your post, click on the little picture above:
http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/images/editor/insertimage.gif
then, when you have selected the file address you paste it into the box that pops up. with flickr photos, you only include the address up to the 'jpg' portion(the blue part). everything after that (the red part) gets left off :)

So much wonderful yarn.

I got a good amount of knitting done on my swap pal's suprises for the second box, while I was waiting for my DD to get an MRI this morning , they had to monitor her for 2 1/2 hrs, when she came out of the sedation( she is 6, so they sedated her to keep her still during the 1hr MRI) and we finally got home about 1pm and then went to sleep for a few hours, since we had to be at the hospital at 6am.

such fun colors! i love them! :inlove:

i'm going to take my turn and gush about how much this thing means to me...
seems like a rough summer is what everyone is having so far. i found out i'm getting laid off in august. they're closing down my office. and while i'll be getting a severance package, the mortgage industry isn't doing so hot, so finding a new job is going to be VERY rough. we're just hoping to make ends meet enough so we don't loose the house. that means my yarn budget will be gone pretty soon, but this swap is makes me forget my worries, makes me giddy about giving and receiving, and all the while restocks my stash! :teehee:
:hug:so hooray again for summer swapping!:hug:

I'm late...

I'm never late.. I'm always early.. but.. *sniff.. I'm late.. I just mailed out my box to my swapper. I've been in & out for tests.. and the Dr. would not listen to how important it was for me to get the yarn & get it mailed.

He thought it was one thing.. I told him it wasn't. (I was right..) But.. I was uh hmmm staying close to the facilities for about 3 days.( upper then lower GI)

Then more tests.

He still thinks something is wrong.. ( He has kept me from knitting, that is what is wrong)

So swapper.. the box is on it's way. I'm soso sorry it's late.

But.. on the good news, The other box will be mailed w/ in about 10-14 days.. So maybe that will make up for it.

I haven't heard from my swapee.. hope all is well..

:woohoo:I opened it yesterday...Im charging camera batteries right now!

My pal sent me a great big bag of Skittles...a little package of Soak...(Ive been looking at this when I go to the YS in Arlington....now I have a chance to try it!)

A gorgeous summery ball of sock yarn, and it says its from Italy! Its so cute! And 2 skeins of yummy yummy peachy orange sock yarn from Artyarns. I love it! Im seriously debating on surrendering my current sock project to SSS and casting on with this yarn!

Either that or buying more DPNs...:roflhard:

Pictures coming ASAP! I promise!

Thank you SO much swapper! I LOVE it! :muah::hug:
