Blocking

Is it really worth spending the money for special blocking tools like KnitPicks sells? I've never made anything that required blocking, or should I say I've never blocked anything I've made. But I have a few things coming up that will probably need blocking.

If you knit lace, I would invest in a good blocking board and wires, plus a ton of pins, but if you don't, than pins will be fine, just pin them out to the carpet. If you don't want to do that, than a blocking board will do.
