I'm making a baby coat as a gift, and the buttonholes for the coat are hard to determine. I'm afraid that the mom won't be able to find the buttonholes to button the coat up (because I sure had a hard time finding them!) Does anybody else notice this? Is there anything that can be done to make the buttonholes more noticeable? They're just one YO big with DK weight yarn. I didn't want to stitch all around the buttonholes because then they would lose their ability to stretch, but I'm stumped as to what I can do to make them easier to see.

Also, when you sew buttons on a garment, do you use thread, or do you use yarn? Probably seems like a dumb question, but I wasn't sure.

I am not sure about doing something to make them more noticeable... but I sew buttons with the same yarn I made it with.

Here's a few links that should help.

I almost always use metal buttons, but that wouldn't be quite right for a baby, so maybe a contrasting color button would work?
