There's one called Topi (http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring06/PATTtopi.html) on Knitty, and although it's called a "cadet style" cap, I think it might be what you're looking for.
There's also a pattern in one in the Stitch 'N Bitch books but since I don't have them in front of me I can't tell you which one.

Why not buy some inexpensive worsted weight yarn and give it a try? The worst you can do is screw up and pull it all out and use the yarn for something else.
If it turns out good, then spend a little $$ on good yarn to make one that's really fashionable!

I believe it's _Stitch 'n' Bitch Nation_, I've made it several times and it's really easy. Here's a pic of one I made for a friend:

The book is Stitch n Bitch Nation by Debbie Stoller. It's a cute pattern, and pretty easy too.

Also, for the brim, I used plastic cross-stitch grids from the craft store - it's cheap and waterproof. The book give you a template that you can trace.
