06-25-2007, 05:41 AM
FRANCES ADAMS WAS A MILLINER, DESIGNER & OWNER OF HER NYC(FIFTH AVEUNE) SHOWROOM & FACTORY IN THE 1940'S, 50'S & 60'S. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANYONE WHO MIGHT KNOW OF ANY VINTAGE SHOPS OR ESTATE SALES THAT WOULD BE SELLING HER HATS. THE REASON FOR MY INTEREST IN FRANCES ADAMS HATS IS A PERSONAL ONE...SHE WAS MY DEAR PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER:heart:.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!:muah:

Hi dakazmeow, Nice to meet you & thank you for checking Google for me. Yes, I did see that hat & hat box. If you notice, that label is cut out. I was curious to know if it is a Frances Adams orginal. I have been able to find & purchase a couple of hats from ebay & a vintage stores. It is so interesting to me that not one of the hats I purchased is from the NY area, where they orginated from. I'm always checking around.
Have a great day!

Just noticed that there are have been several posters who have read my orignial post about my G-ma's hats. I appreciate those of you who have read it & would love to hear from anyone who may know of any estate sales in your area. I have gotten a couple of her hats from vintage shops who have bought from estate sales.
Thanks again for your help.

Do the hats have a specific, characteristic label to look for? I have some of my grandmothers vintage hats- I'd have to check the labels. They are nice and were all bought in Portland, OR years and years ago. If Francis Adams hats sold for what would have been considered a high price at the time I doubt they are the one you're looking for, but you never know!

Not to offend, but it's really really hard to read a post written in all caps.

That's interesting that you have some of your G-ma's vintage hats. The label that my G-ma put in her hats had her name on it in red script lettering w/a white background. In her earlier days as a designer, she used a beige colored label. I recently purchased one of her hats that she sold to a store in a dept store called Meier & Frank in Portland, Or. I'd love to know if your G-ma wore her hats..
Hope to hear from you soon.

Well I just looked. No Francis Adams. I have and Eva Mae, a no lable, one that says Union made, one with a stamp for the lable that looks like it says Opera. My mom and aunts have a few others, but they are not handy for me to look at.
Meier & Frank was a very famous Portland Dept. Store with stores all over Oregon. It then for many years was part of the May Company which had stores under a different name back east, for awhile Hecht's I think. Recently the May Co. was bought by Macy's and so the Meier and Frank in down town Portland is no longer, it is becoming a Macy's- very sad as it was M & F for ever...Lots of my mother's and her sisters, and her parent' shopping was done there. My table and chairs, which were my grandparents and now are 63 years old, was purchased there.

Hello, I came across this because I was looking for details on this hat designer. I have a brown/tanish, hat by Frances Adams. My husband bought it for me a few years ago. It's in amazing condition, and has the pin as well.
If you get this, please contact me, via email. No, I am not trolling, or lieing. I'm an avid hat collector. I found thing hat in Salida, Colorado in an antique shop called, Fabulous Finds. The shop owners name is Carol. I've know her for years, and her shop is where I purchase my hats.
