A hat question

Are there any good patterns or any good yarns that can make a nice hat that won't completely screw up a woman's hair-do?

I have shortish hair and hats generally make me look like I've just woken up. I miss having a pony-tail. Any ideas?

I'm not sure this is possible in a closely fitted hat and any hat as such will ruffle your hair "somewhere" (and if made from yarn in particular) however, if you look for a more box/dome like hat that may help as the body of the hat will sit above your hair and just the rim will touch. I saw a great 30's pattern somewhere yesterday but can't seem to locate it now..but take a wander through these:
