View Full Version : Any knitters in San Diego area?

any knitters in San Diego area interested in getting together for a knitting group? we can meet a couple times a month. It would be nice to meet fellow knitters :-) and it appears you all love knitting as much as i do. A couple people at work crochet and only one other knits and actually finishes her project.

I'm not currently in San Diego, but we will be moving there next month. I'd be interested.

oh great. i think you will love it here. i moved here from the east coast and fell in love with it. the only downfall is that christmas sneaks up on you because you don't see the leaves change and the weather stays the same. but really can you beat an 80 degree xmas?

Oh, I do love it there. We lived there for 7 years, until DH got sent to a new duty station. I don't really like how crowded and expensive it is, but the weather can't be beat.

I'm north of the city, still in San Diego county. I'll watch this space for potential meetups. :)

I clicked on ah's links, btw. The first one is a yahoo group - not my bag. North Coast KG meets at midday each Tuesday - I'm working then. Bonita's too far south for me. KBTB's circle is nothing more than a sales tool by the store that operates it.

No, I'm not cranky at all. ;)

Actually the San Diego Fiber Folk group meets once a month in Balboa Park on a weekend late morning/early afternoon. I haven't been able to attend a get together, but the posts afterwards make them sound like fun.

The North Coast KG also has an evening meeting. Knit@Nite, an evening knitting group, meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m., at Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center
4126 Executive Drive, San Diego 92137.

San Diego Knit Together Info

All visitors and residents of San Diego are invited to the San Diego Knit Together on the 2nd Sat of every month in Balboa Park at 6th and Upas. Please note this is NOT the museum side of the park. We are west of the 163.

Please bring a chair, lunch, something to work on, show-offs, questions. All persuasions of fiber work are welcome as are well-mannered dogs and children and SOs who know how to amuse themselves. Especially welcome are SOs and kids with fiber persuasions of their own. A word about what to wear: If you are a person who tends to feel chilly, we recommend long pants and layers. There is almost always a pretty stiffish breeze from the west. Ironically some of the chillier days have been in high summer while the most comfortable have been in February!!

Additional information is available from the email list SanDiegoFiberFolk:

Directions from the north, west and east: Get to Interstate 8, exit onto 163 SOUTH. Exit the first exit which is for University. At the traffic light, go straight onto 6th. When you reach Upas, turn catty corner into the Park. Park in the vicinity of the very first speed limit sign and look for us under the pine trees to your right.

Directions from the south: From Interstate 5, exit at 4th St. At light, turn right and you will be on 6th. Head up 6th to Upas and follow directions above.

Thanks ah.

I'm going to try for the balboa park one. I work during the week so i'll never make the weekday morning ones.

I haven't yet, but I hope to after our medical issues quiet down--we hope in about 6 months or so.

Another one I just found:

The monthly meeting of the Lunatic Fringe will be at Common Threads in Encinitas this next Monday, the 17th of September at 5:30. We are an informal group and we use the back room of the Common Threads shop as a meeting spot.

Please bring your knitting (or anything else fiber related) and a dish to pass. Knitters of all skill levels are welcome! If you have friends or neighbors or anyone who might be interested, please invite them.

I found a knitting/crochet group (http://crochet.meetup.com/465/?gj=sj2)at the Meetup site. They're having a meeting at Panera on the 22nd so I'm going to go to that. If you're interested in that one, there's still two spaces left. I also found that the nearest yarn store to me (The Bonita Knitting Store) is on the Meetup site.

I want to meet fellow San Diego knitting enthusiasts!! Showing off to non-knitters are not fun... Have you form a group yet?? May I join you?? Please let me know where and when. How's the Balboa group??

zip, I agree with you about KBTB...

Hello! I'll be attending a conference in San Diego next month, staying in the Hillcrest area, and looking for yarn shops nearby. Any yarn shops in Hillcrest? I've found nothing within walking distance from where I'm staying. Needleworks and The Grove are a short cab ride or bus/trolley ride away and on my list to check out. Shepherdess would be close also, but they seem to be more into beading. If you've visited any of these stores, please let me know about your experience. Thanks!

If anyone's still active in this thread, I'm in the Spring Valley area of Lemon Grove/San Diego and would be overjoyed to find some knitters - active knitters - close to me! :)
