must I frog?

Pattern I'm following :

Problem I'm having:
Starting the first sleeve, I picked up and knitted the recommended number of stitches around the armhole EVEN THOUGH I THOUGHT IT WAS TOO MANY :grrr:

ERGO, as I have come down several inches, decreasing as per pattern, I see that I have what almost looks like a bit of a
"puffed sleeve effect", and this being a sweater with a DROPPED SHOULDER and for BOY, it's simply not acceptable.

Query:
Is this a problem that could be blocked away?
Sorry I can't post a photo to show just how puffed it is: We moved a few weeks ago and I still can't find the charger for the battery in my camera :grrr:

Is your armhole large enough? With a drop shoulder they're much larger than usual. You'll probably have to rip it out, and use the stitch number for a smaller size if you marked the armhole correctly.

The armhole is marked, as per pattern instructions, 8.5 inches down from the shoulder graft, and this is a child's size 5/6. That's a fairly generous armhole, I think....isn't it? It certainly looks like a great big dropped shoulder armhole.

I'm going to go back to the original pattern on line and double check my numbers. After I downloaded it, I went through and edited so that only the numbers that applied to the size I wanted were printed. It's possible that I made a mistake during that process, but I doubt it. In any event, the results don't please me, so I'll admit that I know I'm going to frog it. I can't stand to leave things like this as they are.

Good thought to double check it, 100 sts seems like a lot, depends on your gauge I guess.

Gauge is 6 to the inch, but I think I have found my error. I double-checked my marks, which are both supposed to be 8.5 inches down from the the shoulder. One was a full inch and a half closer to the shoulder than the other.:doh:

Oh, that'd make a difference. Lessee, at 6sts/inch times 17 inches, it comes out to 102 sts, so that should be right. Are you putting them too close together at the top which could cause them to be `puffy'.

Well I had 100 stitches picked up over 15.5 inches instead of 17 inches.

The sleeve has been frogged, but I haven't picked up again.
