Anyone have suggestions for beginner laceweight projects?

I have 900 yds of 100% merino. Don't consider myself a 'shawl' girl but am open to suggestions. Wisp from Knitty looks very pretty though.

My first lace project was the tabbard (which is sort of a sweater or vest) in A Gathering of Lace by Meg Swanson. I used a mercerized cotton. It was a great project and you do end up with a very useful and beautiful piece of clothing. It is a sampler of patterns so there is alot of variation and therefore not at all boring. That book is a great book.

Feather and fan is really easy, and comes out looking like it was complicated! Basically you cast on a multiple of 18 stitches (I would put markers in between each set of 18), do a couple of rows of garter just for a border, then:

1) knit
2) purl
3) (k2tog) 3 times, (yo, k1) 6 times, (k2tog) 3 times [repeat for each set of 18 stitches]
4) knit

And repeat till it's long enough. The 4th row will be a garter row, and really makes the pattern pop.
