So I've decided to go for it (this is basically what I did with knitting). I practiced for a day, never having picked up needles prior to that, and then knitted a blanket for a queen sized bed.

I'm making this (http://www.happyyellowhouse.com/jasie.html) baby blanket. I'm using wool ease, a slightly bigger hook than it said too, because I'm a type A fiber yanker, and all of my stuff is really tight.

I'm using cream and camel right now, I've already changed color 5 times, I'm also going to add it red and reddish browns.

I think I'm going to make the edging the camel color, but not sure yet, gotta see the finished product. I'm about 22 rows in and really enjoying the process. I've added stitches a few times and decreased a few times, but only one stitch per row, and you can't really tell.

So far so good, I've pretty much figured out how to read the pattern, but am a little apprehensive about the ruffle. But if I could learn to read knitting patterns, I'll be able to figure out crochet speak as well.

I wanted to thank you all again for your support! I'll post pictures one of these days soon. Life is busy and Ihaven't had a chance.

I'm glad you like the pattern. I thought it was really pretty, fairly easy, and a good beginning project.

I'll have to post some pics of my progress soon. I'm really liking it.

I love that pattern! Thanks so much for giving the link. The edging instructions look well-written. I don't think you'll have a problem with it. If you want a flatter edge, here's how a similar style blanket does it... http://rosylittlethings.typepad.com/TiramisuBlanket.pdf

Can't wait to see it finished!

good for you!! you picked a lovely pattern and I'm sure it will be beautiful. The shell edging isn't hard, just takes getting into the rhythm of it. I think its fun to see the little scallops/ruffles appear...
