Greetings all,

I'm new to the forum and have been lurking for a while. I'm an intermediate crocheter and a novice knitter. Right now I'm working on a crochet lace project with a 2 mm steel hook which is really hard on my hand. Has anyone tried adapting small hooks to make them more comfortable to hold over long periods of time. I guess I'm thinking of something like the grips they make for pencils. Does someone sell grips for crochet hooks? Or can someone tell me how to make one?

A friend of mine made some covers out of Crayola's Model Magic. It's really lightweight, yet soft and foamy. And it air dries. It might be worth checking out, and if it doesnt work, you can always peal it off to salvage your hook :)

I just bought some of those kinds you put on pencils. I squished one inside the other to make the inner diameter small enough, then squished it on the hook. For larger hooks, (like an I or bigger) you don't have to squish them together.

Here's my temporary solution: I made a cushioned handle with a handful of fiber fill and some duct tape. It isn't pretty, but it works very well.

I love the clover hooks with handles for those small hooks. I found a source online and ordered two for crocheting with thread. They are much easier on my hands, wrist and arm than holding that tiny hook.

You might try ebay. There used to be someone on there who sold the steel hooks with wooden handles. Very pretty hooks.
