bethany, you can set up free carrier pick up with USPS. They will pick it up at your house or at your mail box. You can do it at usps.com. You can also pay and print your shipping label there. and it's cheaper than going to the post office. (Though just by a little)

I received Red Roses today. I'll have it ready to send out by Monday.

BTW - I'll be out of town June 10-19. I think I'm up soon on Fruit Stripes. Maybe I can switch with Bethany who is after me.

You just need a delivery confirmation which costs less than a dollar.

Delivery confirmation is free with priority postage. I also noticed today that it was cheaper to purchase my postage online rather than in person. I was given two prices...online and on-site. Interesting...

yes, thanks for the info on the online postage. I started checking into that the other day, got interrupted. It's priceless to not drag the chitlins. And yes, chick, I know what that Really is! haha!! I just like how it sounds :)

Anyway, i got the blankets out between raindrops, just barely. They locked the door behind me!

. . . Plus, I'm going a bit batty with the chitlins, locked up in this house.

OK - I'm not working on any of these blankets, but I had to comment that I call my kids chitlins too; AND . . .

You do know that chitlins are actually pig intestines...

Yes, I've always known that chitlins were pig intestines, but I still loved the word play :roflhard:

Speed Racer zoomed back here for me to put the checkered flag at the end!
Thanks for the yarn Kelly!:hug:I love the color way ,it will go great in my kitchen! As soon as I am done with Speed racer I'm knitting up a dishcloth with it. For future reference you don't need to spend the $ to get the blankets sent certified mail. You just need a delivery confirmation which costs less than a dollar.

Hello everyone, from my HOT house.
(Our A/C is still not working.) :pout:

I'm glad to see that our blankets are still going strong! :)
Y'all are the BEST!

I think there is only one more blanket coming my way before the break, so if you still need knitters for any of those blankets, Sandy, just let me know.
I could use you on "Red Roses" or for the blue section of "Rainbow Blocks". Just let me know which one you want. :)

I have finished my portion of the Sunny Days blanket. Here is a picture after I added my blue yarn. I hope you all like it.
Pretty!

i decided to take a break from the blankets so i could actually get some wip's done and work on my spinning ..the first thing i go and do was cast on for a baby blanket!
:teehee:
I finished "Pink Power" the other day and am awaiting word on the next knitter. I thought it was Spikey, but apparently there has been a change. Just waiting...
It's still Spikey.
I'd actually like one of those big hamster exercise balls! Then we could stay in the ball and still go out and stay dry.
:roflhard:
BTW - I'll be out of town June 10-19. I think I'm up soon on Fruit Stripes. Maybe I can switch with Bethany who is after me.
I'll check with her to see if she wants to do that.
Delivery confirmation is free with priority postage.
Wow! What postal service do you have? :?? Delivery confirmation is 65 cents here with Priority Mail. It's 75 cents with Parcel Post.

Hi All,
Finally back, with lots of blankets to send out (finished my part on four while I was away).

Sandy, am happy to do the blue on rainbow blocks, since I'm to do the purple. Unless, of course, you've already found someone.

Am happy to work on Pink Power if you still need me.

Print and pay online! I do it all the time! You also get a small discount. Then, go to carrier pickup and you can leave your packages on the front step and they'll pick them up. No trips to the post office! It does have to be Priority Mail to buy online or schedule a pick up, but it usually ends up only costing me a few cents difference by the time you figure in paying for the DC and the drive to the post office (not to mention dragging 3 kids along and waiting in line!)

I'm not sure there is enough to finish even one more section. The label is still with the yarn - it is SS Red.

Nope. I used to, but someone was always getting access to my number and trying to make purchases with it. After this happened to me SIX TIMES, I decided to never use a card again. I only use checks and cash now. And I have a paypal account (but no card with that either).

Hey Everyone!

Okay, I sat down to work on Pastel Rainbow this morning... after about half of a row my fingertips started to turn red and blister. I completely spaced that they're metal needles! I'm really super allergic to metal (they tried to put braces on me and i stopped breathing).

I looked on the needles and there isnt a needle size. I really want to work on it and send it to the next knitter... would anyone mind telling me what size needles they are?:) I dont have a needle sizer and wont be able to buy for a few days.

Welcome! To join in, you can send a private message to Shandeh (Click on her name and a menu will come up.) Tell her you are interested in joining in. There is a thread at the top of the Charity page that explains all the "rules".

Just so you know, we are going to take a little break for the summer after the current round is finished up and we'll start up in the fall again. Do join in, it's great fun!

I thought I posted this last night :??. If this is a double post I'm sorry I didn't see my other post!! Rainbow Joy II made it here safe and sound. I love these rainbow blankets!!
I'm the last knitter on it. I am wondering if it needs a border or if that would take away from it. Opinions?? Either way I don't mind, just thought I would see what everyone else thinks!

I got Fairy Land from Boo1 yesterday:cheering: Thank you so much for the yummy yarn and notepad, too! And I really like that stitch pattern you used - it's nice and cushiony. I"m hoping to get it started sometime today, but I spent most of the night in the ER with my son last night (trying to figure out what's been giving him so much tummy trouble lately:help:) so I'm a bit beat today.

Just my opinion, but I think a "cloudy" border would look excellent on the rainbow blankets! Something floofy and white. (Okay, I know that's not a word, but you know something kind of ruffled so it looks like a cloud.)

I was so excited to get a call from my mother in law letting me know that I had a package left by the mailbox. We live on the same property so our mailboxes are sort of together. She brought it in her house for me so that nothing would happen to it. But, the real excitement was not only did I get that one but also a package was in my mailbox on the same day. I received Melon Medley, Thank you, Stacie for the tea I am sure I will love it. I also got Sunshine Punch. Thank you, Tracie for the beautiful yarn I have never felt yarn soooo soft yet. I am going crazy trying to decide what I want to make with it. Maybe a boggan for my grandson. 3 months old now.

I have finished the border for Melon Medley so now I think I am to send it on to Snowbear, is that correct? I have her address so if you just let me know if that is correct I will get a pic posted and send it on to her.

I have started on Sunshine punch, I am going to stick with a garter stitch for right now because I am so new and I don't want to mess up any of the beautiful blankets. But, I promise to practice other stitches as I go to get better at them. Maybe make some blocks for other charity blankets will help me get some practice and if I mess it up I can frog the whole thing without getting too upset to start over.

GEEZ!! I seem to be such a spazz lately. Oh, and thanks to allergies, I have absolutely NO voice left. Not a peep. My fiance keeps giggling when I talk, but i'm sure he's thrilled that I'm forced into silence!!!! Last night he said I sounded like Demi Moore, but today? Nada. Hope it clears up by the time we get to Oregon tomorrow night, I'm meeting his sister and her family for the first time and would love to be able to talk. On second thought, if I can't talk, I can't say anything stupid! haha!!

Hey guys,

Snowbear, I have sent out Melon Medley to you this morning the confirmation number is: 03070020000264356695.

Shandeh, I have sent the Needles and stoppers back to you for safe keeping until we start again the confirmation number is: 03070020000264356718.

It has been a great joy to be able to participate in this very worthy cause.

HollyP, I will be sending your blanket out as soon as I can find time to get to the post office. It is kind of hard as the one in the town I live in opens after I am at work and closes before I can get there in the afternoon and is only open for an hour on Saturday. So, I have to find time to go during my work day and right now we are at the year end of billing and I am not even taking lunches. It could be Friday before I get it out there unless I can talk the girl that does our mail into doing it for me. She is really good if she is not too busy to do that kind of thing for us.

No, I haven't yet looked at that but I do remember you all talking about that on this thread. I will check into it as soon as I get a chance. I have a very slow dial up at home so I don't like to be online much there. I use my husbands PC at his office to check this and other threads every morning before and after work. On the weekends we sometimes go to his office and just surf the net. That is the wonderful thing about owning your own business you can use the boss's PC. lol I am not allowed to do a lot like that where I work and I usually don't have the time. But I will get to that maybe sometime this week.

I have one. But for shipping with Priority (that's what I usually use) the weight doesn't change the price much if at all. In fact for the box it's a flat rate. For that I just make sure I don't under estimate it and don't really even use my scale.

I was able to get one MUCH cheaper in amazon than at the store.

I was just going to let you know that I bought a shipping scale off of ebay. The seller was Just Pounds and Ounces. It had been very helpful. You can use it for shipping packages, weighing yarn, or kitchen stuff if needed. It works very well. I got it for just under $20. I hope this helps.

Dawn, like Snowbear said, we need to keep working on the blankets we are doing now, so you'll need to send them on. We're starting with BRAND NEW blankets in August.

Here are the blankets you have (or will have soon), and how they need to be handled:

"Fairy Land" and "Pastel Rainbow" will need to be worked on by two other knitters after you. Let me know when they are ready to go.

"Happy Bluebirds" needs to go to Snowbear.

"Lavender's Green" (a preemie blanket) needs to come to me.

Sorry for the bad picture my cat was trying to jump on it. I didn't take the time to really straighten it and make it look as pretty as it is! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3122/2624864774_637aa682a6.jpg
Here is a close up of the border. I decided to keep it simple a did a single crochet border in sky blue. Again I know it is a bad picture but you get the idea!http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3101/2624864976_b2f4d31093_m.jpg

I will send RJII to Snowbear when I finish Firetruck lane and Red Roses. Both are very very near completion.

Greetings, Oddball Baby Blanket Knitters and Crocheters!
:muah:

We have important news to share!!

Remember when I said I would have some BIG NEWS about our new blankets starting in August? Well....here it is!!!

Our project has grown to immense proportions.....way too big for me to handle alone. So, I have asked for help from some of you.

Lucky for me, there are FIVE WONDERFUL LADIES, ready to take over our project in five different regions of the US!!!
:cheering: :woohoo: :cheering:

Say congratulations and offer your knitting and crochet skills to our new Regional Oddball Baby Blanket Leaders!!

Northeast - Spikey

Southeast - MAmaDawn

Midwest - Snowbear

Southwest - jjminarcik

West Coast - auburnchick

Each of these ladies will be heading up a different section of the US for our Oddball Baby Blankets. Our blankets will be given to different hospitals and charities all over the nation!
cloud9

How cool is that?!

So, start dreaming up your blanket designs and names. Tell all your friends to sign up and join us, as we make blankets for all those little babies!!

I will still be available to help whenever it's needed. So, feel free to send me any questions or suggestions.

We will continue to finish our existing blankets that are in progress right now. This week, I will set up separate discussion threads for each region, so you can begin communicating with your regional leader.

In August, you can begin making blankets for your region.

Be sure to offer your help with organizing or planning your blankets. Your regional leaders will need all the help they can get! I have a feeling that our list of knitters and crocheters will grow even more!

By the way, if you're wondering what region your state is in, here's a little list to help:

Sandy,

Would you put the regional spreadsheet in the "Sticky" area of the Forum?

Are the Preemie blankets included in these new regions or is this just the WW blankets?

Thank you for organizing the groups so well and making the transition smooth. You are an amazing lady with exceptional organizational skills. :muah:

Thanks LBECK! I am an organization freak, so that's why I was able to stay on top of it. But now, it's impossible for just one person to do it! What a wonderful problem! :cheering:

Thanks pinnut.

I'll add the little spreadsheet in the first post of each regional discussion. That should make things easier. :)

Each regional leader will decide what kind of blankets they want to make. They will be checking with their area hospitals and/or charities to see what the need is for their region. It just makes more sense to only make blankets that are really needed.

I'll wait and see what happens all over the country, and then decide if I want to continue collecting preemie blankets here or not.

When I come back I want to be as organized as Shandeh. lol
She should organize our nation's budget, it would be in order in short order!
I can't wait to deliver these lovely blankets. I thank everyone so much for all they've done.
As we split into out areas, I am so glad this great work is being spread all across our nation. We are Knitters hear us roar. One person can make a difference. Shandeh led us to get a great base, now just to continue.
Just thinking of all the lives this work will touch gives me goose bumps, and on a polar bear, that's something, lol.
Just wanted to say thanks to all who have worked on these great blankets, and I can't wait to see how the work continues in different areas.
I was going to handle the Midwest section, but some unforseen circumstances have come up, and I won't be able to devote the time to handle it. Shandeh will handle getting that transferred.
Take care everyone, and thanks again for the great blankets that have benefited the Childrens Hospital here in KC.

Pink power looks great! I love it!!!

Here are some pictures of Red Roses FINISHED!!!!! I really wish everyone could see this in person the pictures do not do it justice at all! I have tried so many times to get a good picture of all the details in this blanket but because it is all the same color the camera is not cooperating. I did an easy crochet ruffle to finish it off. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3036/2681050722_b93bd151d7.jpg

This picture is the best I could get of all the stitch details.

I'm making good progress on Speed Racer. I'll hae a picture for you soon!

Hey Everyone!

Here is... dun ba dum!!... Neon Rainbow all finished!!!:woohoo: :woot:

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj104/Lady_lou3/NeonRainbowOddballBlanket.jpg

The picture doesn't do it justice at all but it was best I could do with detail to capture all of the purdy colors:teehee: I the purple section then I did a (really) simple border with a double crochet, then a triple crochet all the way around. I put the wrong side up (on purpose:teehee: ) because I didnt want to overwhelm all of the fun lines already on the blanket with something intricate. Hope you like it:aww: cuz I really enjoyed having it. It was posted to Snowbear yesterday!

Love,
Lexie:muah:

That is beautiful... What kind of yarn is that and what colors? What stitch pattern are you using?
The color scheme was suggested by Shandeh and followed by at least five of us! We used Caron's Simply Soft worsted weight yarns...I believe the pattern used was called "Mirrored Bars." I was the third knitter on this blanket, and saw that someone had enclosed the pattern, so I just decided to follow it through. It certainly is a blanket with a lot of "Pop!"

I'm getting all kinds of ideas from these blankets to make for my new grandchild on the way. You guys come up with the most bright beautiful blankets. I look at all of them and can't help but feel amazed at how pretty they all are!

Here's a picture of Pink Power.
I have to say that I love the color scheme. We're all using the same pattern and yarn, which is making for a beautiful blanket. Whoever planned this...Kudos!
Thank you! I'll gladly accept those kudos. :teehee:
I'm so glad to see that everyone has used the same pattern on Pink Power. It looks amazing!!! :notworthy:
It will go out in the mail to Karne, a Ravelry member, tomorrow. I'll pm Sandy and Karne the confirmation #.
I haven't checked to see if Karne is available. Have you checked with her?
What kind of yarn is that and what colors? What stitch pattern are you using?
We used Caron Simply Soft in hot pink (watermelon) white, and orange (mango). The stitch pattern is "Mirrored Bars (http://books.google.com/books?id=OzCRmWLL3qsC&pg=PA38&lpg=PA38&dq=%22mirrored+bars%22+knitting&source=web&ots=UQZYkFLLmw&sig=FWd533t92Rtv4oFbg9Nf9moRCI8&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result)" on page 38 of the "Big Book of Knitting Stitch Patterns (http://www.amazon.com/Big-Book-Knitting-Stitch-Patterns/dp/1402727631)".

So sorry Shandeh...for not keeping you in the loop. I did send her a message on Ravelry, and she responded that she is ready. I meant to forward that email to you since I haven't figured out how to send email to more than one person at the same time on Ravelry.

I'm glad you like it, Snowbear! :)

Today, I received the Wildflowers blanket from LBECK. I haven't worked on any of our blankets in a long time, so it's fun to do it now, at the end of our big project together. cloud9

The crochet border was supposed to be done by jhelanee, but I think I'll do it instead, to save on shipping. It will be nice to finish this blanket completely, and send it to Snowbear.

I love it!

Kelly, they used the design I came up with, called "Seed Blocks".

Here is my pattern for a 12 inch square using that design.

I received Fruit Stripes yesterday. How Beautiful! I love it. I am looking for just the right yarn. Trying to find a peach that will look pretty with the other colors. It is the only fruit besides an apple that isn't already represented by color. Every other fruit I can think of the color is there. I may have to order yarn.
