Knitting Stitch Bible Twisted Rib....HELP!

The twisted symbol part isn't explained. I know that you have to knit thru the back loop but what is the stitch immediately to the left and to the right?

I checked the glossary and couldn't find anything.

So what I see is:

Row 1: P,P,?,KBL,?,P,P,?,KBL, etc.

Any code breakers out there?
