View Full Version : Mesh Pattern

I'm new to knitting and reading patterns, but I found a pattern called Mesh. I would like to make a throw, but I'm just wondering if this pattern is too difficult for a beginner? The pattern is

Cast on 28 stiches (14 x the multiple of 2 stitches needed for a single repeat pattern)

Row 1 (RS) - *YO, k2tog;rep from * to end
Row 2 and 4 - Purl
Row 3 - *skp, yo; rep from * to end.
Rep 1-4

I've done "YO" before but never in the beginning. Am I missing something.:knitting: :X:

To do a yo at the beginning of the row, insert your needle, but instead of just knitting the first stitches together, bring the yarn under the right needle and over the top of it to the back before you wrap the yarn to make the stitch. This will give you a yo at the beginning of the row.

Or, what I would do, is just add one stitch on each edge and either do it in stockinette (knit on RS rows, purl on WS rows) or knit the first and last stitch of every row. Might make a bit of a nicer edge than just the mesh pattern, especially with a yo at the edge.
