Im trying to do this on a hat. What is the difference on how to do this when it says to hold cable in front or back?

I've never liked cabeling w/out a cable needle, unless the cable is only 2 stitches wide.
There's a video on the 'View Video' tab above, under the advanced teachniques. This should be able to give you some tips.
