My mom asked me a little while ago if she could knit on them. She has knitted since college but is too intimidated by the internet to join un here. I told her I would ask.

She is more than welcome to participate. Tell her that we are a friendly group, and will be nice to her.

I will need her name and mailing address to add her to the group.

I got it today!:cheering:

Ocean Waves has arrived and I plan on starting it in the next day or two. I need to finish up the last of the 6 dishcloths for my kids teachers first.

Thank you Kellyh57 for the dishcloth pattern book and the Sugar n' Cream yarn! How did you know that I knit a lot of washcloths! I have already eyed a couple of patterns in there to try out. I will post pictures tomorrow, I really wanna get the teacher ones done and out of the way!

Thanks, MAmaDawn. I added you as the last knitter on the "Beach Party" blanket. Cynamar is casting it on now, so it will be a while before it gets to you.

I've also added you to the "Lavender's Green" blanket. You're taking my spot after Spikey. I already have enough blankets here to finish up. ;)

Would you all mind if we take the month of July off? I'm thinking that we can finish the current baby blankets that are in progress, but not start any more until August. (Our current 13 blankets should keep us busy through the month of June.)

Would you all mind if we take a little break? Since it's summertime, it would be nice to have a month free from recordkeeping. :)

During the month of July, we could each start one or two blankets ourselves, and give them a name. Then, in August, we could post photos of what we have going. Then, we could start sending them out to the other knitters to finish. Does this sound like a good idea?

I'm almost done with Lavendar's Blue. Is the next knitter ready? I think it would be going to traceleighj.

I'm not going to bed tonight until I finish ....... I can't believe it's taking me THIS long. So sorry for the hold up!!

I've noticed that the preemie blankets take a lot longer. Probably because the yarn is thinner, and the needles are smaller. :teehee:

I'm fine with taking July off, (I can make sure I get my girl's skirts done by their birthdays in July too then, neither are at the beginning)

And it will be fun to see all the new blankets.

Taking July off is fine with me. Even if we all would be happy to keep knitting, I think you deserve a break, which is all the justification needed to me!

I received Lavender's Green in the mail today. The yarn that I was going to use doesn't coordinate with the other two yarns, so it is back to my stash to find something that will complement the other yarns. Perhaps, I will use a variegated yarn.

Carmen, thank you for the yummy candies. :muah: I am in "Knitting Heaven."

I forgot to post pictures earlier! Here's Ocean Blues. I used Bernat Softee Baby. I can't remember the color name, but it's white and light blue twisted together. The blue matches the light blue that was used before it :) I continued the ripple pattern.

My flash wouldn't do the color very well, but you get the idea...

We are in need of a knitter for the "Lavender's Green" blanket.

I would prefer to use one of our newest members, since we don't have spots available for them right now.

Let's see who wants it in the next few days, and then we'll decide where it goes. :)

I got Nursery RHymes in the mail on Saturday and finished it in just a little while. Here is a picture. Meet Beach Party, too! I wasn't far on it when I took the picture, but it's ready to go. They both are. I used checks & ridges on both of them because it's easy and reversible. Maybe I'll use my imagination next time. Connie made me these wonderful slippers. I love them! THANK YOU CONNIE!!!!!!

I received the spring fling blanket from Shandeh. Sorry I'm delayed in letting you know. I went to my mom's for memorial weekend and I was supposed to go home yesterday. Well the framers were supposed to be done with the add on (drying in portion) yesterday. I took my 3 (2 of which are very large) dogs, myself and my son down to my mom's so we would be out of the way of the framers (they have to take out half a wall). BUT they haven't even started. I'm hoping today they will start so I can go home Friday! I miss my hubby!

So I have the blanket, safely at home!

See you all soon!

~danielle~

PS Mom's internet sucks (way out in the middle of nowhere kinda thing) so I can't even see the pictures of how our blankets are doing. Talk about torture!

Finally home! I got home over the weekend, and we are doing an add on and finally got it all dried!!! Now the house is a mess b/c we have this open area (which is now insulated as well!). Hubby is doing the electricity work, got a roofer coming to put up the new shingles and then the heat/air guy coming to install new vents in!!! I hope we can have it all done by Thanksgiving or so. After all that is done then hubby and I will be doing the rest (drywall, flooring, doors, trim.. things I'm sure I don't even know about, etc).

So!!!! With that said and done, I hope to finish up Spring Fling and get it sent to Sandeh in the next week or so!

I sent Nursery Rhymes and Beach Party off this morning. They are both first class parcel. I forgot to ask about expected delivery as Julianne's middle school science teacher was next in line and I had to chat. Sorry. Nursery Rhymes is on its way to Shandeh. The tracking number is 0307 1790 0004 5706 7352. Beach Party is on its way (with Mason's mom's chemo cap) to Nathalie. That tracking number is 0307 1790 0004 5706 7369. If those numbers don't work tell me and I'll give you another number from the receipt!

Cloud Nine and Nursery Rhymes
They are so pretty and soft!

I received some sweet gifts as well. I'll post photos tomorrow. Right now, I'm going to go to bed early for a change.

I think I might have gotten a bit dehydrated from all those days of no air conditioning. So, I'm sipping water, and resting a lot.

Hopefully, I'll be able to update our blog tomorrow as well.

You're allowed to be lazy occasionally, auburnchick.

I had the blues yesterday, and just sat around moping. I mentioned it to threesmom, and she agreed with me that it's probably hormones. She also said that there was a full moon yesterday, and it causes depression for some people.

I feel much better today, so she might be onto something.

And heres a close-up of my portion. The stitch is called Farrow Rib (http://knitting.about.com/od/stitchglossary/g/farrow_rib.htm). I really like it. It was simple and looks nice on both sides. It's probably one of my favorite stitches that I've used on these blankets.

Baby Bee Sweet Delight is SUPER soft. Some of the colors are softer than others. I don't know why that happens, but it does. The yellows are always heavenly soft. cloud9

Hi All!

I received Forest Greens today from Auburnchick. This blanket is so pretty! Thanks Chick for the Summertime Spa Cloth.....I can't wait to use it.
Now, to get started.....I just got back from Target in the POURING RAIN! Why is it that you always leave when the rain is the heaviest? And I couldn't wait, the ice cream was melting. Now I am soggy, chilled and ready to pop in a movie and knit for the evening.

Hello everyone! :waving:

We have a need for a knitter right now. I'm hoping that one of our new knitters will want to do this little project.

Our "Salt Water Taffy" blanket needs a knitter, because the person who was originally scheduled is unable to knit her part.

Who wants to take this blanket right now? :)

Sandy, could you inform the last knitter of Cotton Candy (I believe it's a raveler) that they do not need to bind off? I am knitting the border, so that way I won't have to re-pick up the stitches.

If any Midwesterners would like to continue working on preemie balnkets, please head over to the Midwest Preemie Blanket discussion (http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81749) or send me a private message.

How do you knit the border? Do you do it in the round? how do you keep the corners from pulling it in? I know to do increases, just not how many or where to place them. Thanks!

stagebear
07-21-2008, 11:53 AM
I'm going to do it in the round - increasing at the corners.

Here's an example from Caron (http://www.caron.com/projects/q/brite_baby_blanket.html):
BORDER
With RS facing, pick up and knit sts evenly around entire outside edge, approximately 1 st per st on CO and BO edges,
and 3 sts for every 4 rows along sides; place a marker (pm) in each corner st and move it up each round; pm for beginning of round.
Rnd 1: * Knit to 1 st before corner st; k1-f/b, knit corner st, k1-f/b (2 sts increased); repeat from * around.
Rnd 2: * Purl to 1 st before corner st; p1-f/b, purl corner st, p1-f/b (2 sts increased); repeat from * around.
Rnds 3 and 4: Repeat Rnds 1 and 2.
Bind off all sts loosely in knit.

I crochet the borders onto the blankets I get. I guess I prefer the look of a "lacy" crochet border but I put 3 stitches in each corner.

I sincerely apologize for the length of time I have had this, but I have a pretty good excuse: Shortly after I received the blanket I found out that I am expecting! My knitting rate slowed to a crawl as I battled queasiness and fatigue (but no actual sickness, thank heaven). This has been finished for over a month, but it was set in a pile and forgotten about until recently. I should be able to finally get it in the mail to Shandeh this weekend.

(and for the curious, my bundle of joy should make his/her appearance in mid-Feburary)

The last one I have is the one you took. Stagebear has it now, and will complete it and give it to the hospital in her area.

Yesterday, I received two sweet little blankets from jhelanee. cloud9

The "Ocean Blues" blanket, and the "Bubble Gum" blanket that pinnut3200 made.

Yay!!!! Our project is almost* complete!

We did a WONDERFUL job, making 19 preemie baby blankets for charity! :cheering: :woohoo: :cheering:

* One of our blankets is missing: Summer Blossoms

I still have some of the preemie blankets at my house, ready to be finalized. Most of them need a border, and one of them still needs one section knitted. Also, one of our blankets had a hole in it, so I had to unravel back to that section.

So, there is still work to do on our last blankets.

I completed "Nursery Rhymes" yesterday!

I've finally learned how to do a crochet shell border, and now I'm addicted! :teehee:

Here is my "to-do" list for the rest of our little blankets:
"Racecar Alley" & "Cloud Nine" - adding border
"Cherry Blossoms" & "Citrus Punch" - knitting last section, and adding border
"Beach Party" - re-knitting two sections and adding border
(there was a hole in this blanket that I could not repair, so I had to frog back through two sections)

Woo Hoo! I've gotten a LOT done on our blankets. :)
I think I must have gotten a fire lit under me during our last monthly KH knit-along in August. (Turn UFOs into FOs)

I finished FIVE blankets this week! :woohoo:

Angel Kisses (I decided to add a border after all. It's kind of twisted in the photo, but it looks better in person.)

Beach Party (I had to unravel this one back through the last section, because there was a hole in it.)

Here's the section I had to re-knit, with a close view of the crochet border I added:

Citrus Punch (I think the border looks like a lemon rind) :)

Cloud Nine (It looks ready for a prince or princess!)

I am SO EXCITED to finally finish the last of our little blankets!

Great news! "Summer Blossoms" has been found! :)

The last knitter will be mailing our final blanket to me as soon as she completes her section. I'll add the border to that, and we'll REALLY be finished! :woohoo:

I think I'm going to take a photo of ALL our blankets together, for a grand finale. Then, I'll be making photos when I take them to be delivered to charity. (Some will go to a children's hospital, and some will go to the Crisis Pregnancy Center.)

I've been SO busy knitting for charity, that I haven't been able to get our lovely blankets to charity yet. (Bad Sandy!)

So, the other night, I got all of them together, and washed them with dye-free, unscented laundry detergent. I also used a bit of fabric softener made for babies.

Now, our blankets are nice and clean and pretty. cloud9

I'm making a notebook now, that will have photos of each blanket, along with the names of the knitters that made each one. I will put the sheets and our cards in clear sheet protectors in the notebook. This will be a permanent record of our donation.

That way, if the cards cannot be given with the blanket, at least they can be viewed in the notebook.

They were very pleased with our lovely blankets! :)
