I want to make this hat what length needles should I start with? can I do this ML or would the 2 circ. needle method work best?

Probably 16", though you might be able to get away with 24" until the stitch numbers won't fit. You can ML or use 2 circs too.

Wow that was fast I didn't even have time to finish reading a couple of threads. I think I am going to go with 2 circs. is it possible to switch from 2 circs to ML once I decrease the number of stitches?

Sure, it's possible, but why? Either method (ML/2 circs) will work to finish the hat all the way to the last stitch.

Just to try it on a small project, in little doses.

Sure, to experiment with, it's no problem to switch from one to the other.

I did switch over this morning and I really like ML best. Glad I tried both ways, ML is easier for me to keep track of which row I am on, from side to side.

Hi Trish! That's a nice blog over there, glad I saw it.

Well it's a lot of stitches to cast on so I would use a 24. You could use bigger but I've found the bigger circulars I have are limited for other projects. And like Elizabeth Zimmerman states, a 24 can hold a LOT of stitches. Hope that helps. I love that hat.
