View Full Version : Looking for Circular Knit Vest Pattern

I've spent this entire evening searching for a pattern for a circular knitted vest. It's just a large knit (ribbed) circle with slits for armholes. A sample was hanging in a local yarn shop but the lady on duty could not tell me where to find the pattern nor what yarn was used. Can anyone help me?

Of course I have no idea what the one you saw hanging looked like, but I ran across this one on Knitty (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter04/PATTleftovers.html) ...

Did you try different combinations of words to do your search? For the above result I googled [free circular knitting pattern pullover vest]. I tweaked my search a bit more and clicked on images and browsed for something that looked like a vest.

Happy hunting.

There's a circular shrug... It's several inches of 2x2 ribbing, then decrease the sts and about 12-14 inches of mock rib or stockinette or lace pattern, then increase sts to the CO amount and the same amount of 2x2 rib you started with. You sew up the sides along the edges of the ribbing and you've got a shrug or vest. This is what it looks like - http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=45597.msg479480#msg479480 and you can find the pattern on her blog http://www.peonyknits.blogspot.com/

I finally found two patterns I can surely modify--I will try both for my grandaughter then, if they work, move up to adult sizes:
1. "Pinwheel sweaters" on ellan.com, and
2. "Polkadot" on berroco.com
I also called the yarn shop and they will have the person who knit their sample call me with the info on the pattern.
Thank you so much. I love your forum.

I bought the book, "Silk Knits", after seeing someone wearing a beautiful vest. She had used a sparkling yarn and everyone was admiring it. I bought my book on Amazon and they let you look through the patterns before buying.

I have a pattern that came from Plymouth Yarn. It is number NO26. It looks very similar to the one you had a picture of. Hope it helps.

Think you might be looking for this one which was once a part of Elann's free pattern library.
I made it last year and again in a tween size this fall for my granddaughter. It's great for summer and spring. For personal use only, as required by Elann, photos available for identification of right one.. Download it here (http://sharonwatterson.wordpress.com/2010/05/23/knit-a-circular-vest-free-pattern/).

That elann pattern isn't up anymore, but I found a link for it at the wayback machine.
