View Full Version : FO: My first hat - "Cylinder Hat"

04-26-2008, 01:18 PM
Not only was this my first time ever knitting in the round, but it was my first hat, my first time on DPNs, and my first time using circulars. This project may have been a bit ambitious, but I think it turned out pretty good. My husband saw it on Knitty Gritty and asked me to make it for him because he loved it, so here it is:

(Thank you to my lovely husband for being willing to let me post pictures of him modeling it)

Oh, and this is my first time posting a finished project and posting pictures, so I hope this goes well. LOL

Here is the pattern if anyone else is silly enough to want to make it: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,,DIY_14141_5261873,00.html

:roflhard: :teehee: The man has steel guts! LOLOL!! I love it, moreso for the utter silliness and many kudos to Hubby for being such a great and brave model! You did a great job! Kinda looks like you'll be able to feed his brain directly- avoiding tooth decay and added pounds! Too cute! :yay:

I was thinking something else of steel, but yeah....I agree. LOL I told him he can't wear it out in public if I'm with him, but he insists he loves it and wants to wear it out in public. Oy!:aww:

:chair: This is such a fun hat. I love it.  It will really be a show stopper. It takes a certain kind of person to wear a hat like this in public, and he looks like he has the nerve.

It made me wonder if it could be called his "I'm a Little Tea Pot Hat". You know, "Here is my handle and here is my spout." I see the handle and it looks like it has multiple spouts.

You really did a nice job on the knitting too. It looks like a challenging project with all those projections.

Your DH is going to have so much fun with this hat.

what a great hat .. .and in such a sensible yarn too!! it ofsets the excessive tubiness of it nicely! well done, that took gut for your first in-the-round project and it looks good!

LOL thanks for the comments. Now my 4-year-old son keeps stealing it and wants me to make him one. I may make a smaller version for him, but I'm hoping to appease him with a different silly hat (I like silly hats). I'm almost done with it already - a very pointy hat with self striping yarn. We'll see if he leaves hubby's alone when it's done. So far he likes it and keeps asking me "Is my new hat done yet?" I guess I have a weird family since they seem to like weird hats. lol

Oh he's a gem alright. LOL Now he wants to wear this stupid hat everywhere he goes. It's so embarrassing! He's in love with it! lol
