Wow.. fancy-dancey hats!! and the squares are so creative!!!
I wonder if Thelma would share the stitch pattern for that pastel green one... it looks pastel green..

I seem to be addicted to making squares.. and thinking about making squares...I need to learn the method of putting them together.. I am interested in learning the process of putting them together and also putting the border on the blanket at the end..where can I learn this?

Thanks Pat. At one time I was getting emails from the Lion Brand and they had a different cable stitch each month. This one is called "Ice Storm" These are the directions that I have. I had to work it out to come out to 8" X 8" including the stitches for the border.

(multiple of 6 sts plus 2)
Stitch Explanation:

4-st RC Sl 2 sts to cn and hold to back, k2, k2 from cn.

Pattern: Rows 1 and 3 (RS) Knit.
Row 2: Purl
Row 4: *K2, P4; rep from *, end k2.
Row 5: P2, *4-st RC, P2; rep from * to end.
Row 6: Purl
Rep rows 1 - 6.

Note: this is a generic pattern for creating this cable. For a single cable it would be 8 stitches. In the example shown, there are 5 repeats of the stitch, so you'd need to cast on 32 (6 X 5) stitches.

Abbreviations:
cn = cable needle
sl = slip
k = knit
rep= repeat
k2tog = knit 2 together
RS = right side
p = purl
WS = wrong side
st(s) = stitch(es)
RC = right cross :knitting:

Thanks, Pat! Actually it was only that fast because I *crocheted* it~ I am much faster at crocheting, though I don't do it often! I had also started a knitted shawl but I quickly realized it would take more time than I care to admit :teehee: and getting it done on time would mean marathon, continuous non-stop knitting~so in the interest of time (getting the shawl to Nathalie by the end of this month!) I chose to crochet :mrgreen:

Thanks for offering to take a picture, Nathalie! :hug:

Nathalie, I used caron ss and lion fun fur held together for the hair hat. I used the lion pattern but increased the number of stitches to 48, I think, for the large size. I cast on the # of stitches required for the large on the lion pattern and it was way too small. I'm at my parent's house now and I left the pattern at home so I can tell you next week.

Gosh, I can't believe that's fun fur! It is an amazing hat! I want to make it in a wild color for my friend. Let me see if I can hunt around for the pattern...do you remember the name of it?

Here is the pattern:

http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/kff-chemoCap.html

I already had caron ss so I used it instead of microspun. I think I cast on 48 stitches instead of 40 for the cap so I had to change the decrease rows.

Hi
I've just read your request for chemo hats. I have a couple here at the house.....do you still need them. It's 6-28-08 today. I have a niece that now has her hair back and has beaten breast cancer. Would you like to have them? Just send me an address to my PM. Finding my way in and out of these little chat places is hard for me. So if you have an address I'd be more than happy to send a couple of little "bright" hats. Constance

I just did some quick math. with 30 squares that are 8" we would have a grid of 5 squares x 6 squares. the blanket is roughly 54 x 40 inches WITHOUT seaming and the boarder. Ms. Jean will have an afghan

Hi There!

Yes, i got your square, Dangles:) thank you SO much for the little square of canada for me as well!:heart: :aww: Super cute. Sorry I havnt posted pictures yet, there is another package coming in soon and i like to post a few at once!:teehee:

Also, just wanted ya'll to know that i've got about half of the seaming done now:) I'm pretty sure that there are squares in the mail (I hope!!) because we still have two empty slots!

Hey There!

I crocheted the squares together-(and am really enjoying it!) I asked the ladies at my SNB and they said for sure that it'll hold up the very best:) Which is good, because I have good control of where the stitches go because doing a double crochet I have a minute to look where I want the next one to go:teehee:

Hope that helps!

Hey all!

I'm not sure if I've received everyone's items thus far.

There was one person who was going on vacation and asked me to wait. I don't have the PM anymore...so sorry about that.

Here's what I'm going to do...

I'm going to work on getting everything wrapped up nicely in tissue paper and packed into a box. I will probably send the package out on Monday, giving a few more days to receive items.

IF you need more time...you're just finishing up something, please let me know. I'm more than willing to wait a few more days.

OTHERWISE, the package will go out on Monday.

I had a request from one of our Ravelry participants to post pictures, so I'm in the process of posting ALL of the pictures on my blog. I'll let you know when that's done, so you can see the incredible number if items the group produced.

Don't forget that Lexie is working on getting our squares together.

How's that coming, Lexie? Can you post pictures of your progress?

Thanks all!

Hi all!

I created a page (http://auburnchick.wordpress.com/goodies-for-ms-jean/) on my blog that has all of the pictures of the items completed so far. I thought it would be easy for you to see the amazing items we finished.

Miss Jean is going to be surrounded with all our love and well wishes. Oh gosh, now I'm getting all weepy. Anyway, great job everyone. Special thanks to Nathalie.

I fixed the care package today! What a grand time I had too!!!

FYI...I LOVE wrapping presents at Christmas. Lots of ribbon is the key. :wink:

I did the best I could, using tissue paper, so the individual packages are odd-shaped. :teehee:

I kept all of the card swith the items they belonged to.

Here's what it looked like when I got started...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3086/2662801708_e41553a6c9.jpg

Here's what it looked like after I had wrapped a few items...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3263/2661975993_cdb2360f76.jpg

Here's what they all looked like when I got done...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3230/2662801754_801e45f1e9.jpg

Here's a close-up of the note I wrote...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3251/2661976051_4937319a05.jpg

Now it was time to put everything in a box. Easier said than done. The first box was too small, so I tried another one.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3282/2662801826_f4d85a2e43.jpg

Obviously, this one was too small. Time to move up in size...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3252/2662801790_b562f8e000.jpg

I figured out that you can smoosh packages only so much before they quit smooshing.

I didn't have another box big enough, so I trotted off to the post office to get one. It poured down rain, of course. I was wet when I got home, but dab-nab-it...I had the box I needed...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3076/2662801852_c5c54c9a09.jpg

The box I wound up with is on the left. :teehee:

I'm going to put it in the mail on Monday. I'll probably send it via UPS...I expect it be a bit cheaper to mail this way, plus it's rather large.

Thank you, all, for the time you spent knitting all of these items. I sure do wish I could see her face when she opens everything. Of course, not seeing is really part of the joy in giving. Kind of like leaving a gift for a neighbor, ringing the doorbell, and running like crazy to avoid detection.

Thank you, Pat. I have to admit that I didn't wrap everything individually, though. I did wrap the items that had cards or notes separately. A few other items were grouped together and wrapped. I thought it would be more festive and fun, though, if she had things to unwrap. I just love unwrapping presents.

I think it's clear enough to read. She asks for special prayers for the difficulty she's having adjusting to not being able to speak. I cannot imagine...

It is my prayer that this blanket will convey our love for her in a way that words would not adequately express.
