My mother went to the doctor today. They removed the tracheotomy tube and sutures from her neck. She looks a lot better now without that thing sticking out of her neck. She can also eat now.

The doc did give her some good news. They had removed the lymph glands from her neck and they had received the lab reports back. Zero cancer in them. That's a great thing because it means the cancer was localized and hadn't started to spread at all.

Her spirits are much better now and I think she's going to be ok.

LOL sure, she'll still be doing the chemo thing. While the cancer hadn't spread to the lymph glands they'll still want to do it just to be certain.

I'm so glad to hear the lab reports came back clean, and that she's able to eat again (now go buy 5 gallons of her favorite ice cream for her!). I know that's got to be a huge load off of your heart.

Thanks everyone. I just spent some time on the phone with the medical supply company, and faxing documents back and forth, to get her equipment and supplies ordered.

What a pain in the posterior! Even though it was plainly noted on the order form faxed to them by the doctor, they overlooked the artificial voice unit that will allow her to speak. That just about sent me over the edge as that is the main piece of equipment being ordered for crying out loud!

After some discussion and making the guy actually read the stupid form he finally found where the thing was noted to be ordered. He does this for a living?

After some discussion we decided to order a different unit than the one specified by the doctor. They have a unit that is just as high quality and durable, but is capable of voice inflections for better expression as well as having a more natural sounding voice. They also have a special pricing on it this month and it's $100 cheaper than the more artificial sounding one.

He also said that if she doesn't like that unit she can send it back for the other one and just pay the price difference.

Her stuff should come in some time next week.

Great news Mason. :yay: I hope she is more comfortable.

Dealing with medical suppliers can be a hassle. We literally had to jump through hoops to get my Mom a walker when she was in the hospital once. The hospital didn't have any "loaners" so we had to get the doctor to order it. She was in the hospital for almost three weeks--I think it finally arrived 2 days before she was released. Geez!

That is wonderful news. Having gone through this with my father, my thoughts and prayers are with you both. I'm not sure what you call them but you can knit up or crochet some of the little bib things that go over the trach opening. I made lots of them fo my Dad in colors that matched all his shirts.
