View Full Version : Resources for new spinner on wheel

Hi. I just purchased an old spinning wheel from a garage sale. I have looked it over for any markings and don't find any, so I don't even know what brand it is. It looks like a traditional wheel, however, it does not slant, it is level. Does that make sense?
I don't know much about spinning at all. Have done a little on a drop spindle. It needs a drive band, which I have purchased off of ebay and am waiting for it to arrive. I have no idea what I need yet or what it is missing. It appears to only be missing the drive band. It has the thing that the yarn goes on, but what are all of the little hooks on it? See, I know practically nothing!
Anyone able to point me in the right direction? I would be very grateful!

it would be alot easier to identify if you could post some pics but here is a quick link.. it even tells you what those little hooks are for :)

tells you all of the parts and is also a good site for some basics

One that comes to mind is the Ashford Traditional, since it has been a very common wheel for a long time.

Thanks a lot. I have checked out or reserved many books on spinning at my local library too. I think I can get everything figured out by the descriptions and pictures. So, once my life settles down a little, I will be playing around with the wheel. :)
