View Full Version : Flexible cardigan ideas

OK so I want to knit a cardigan for this fall, but I need a flexible one. I'm having my baby at the end of September, so my body will be changing shape and size quite a bit over the sweater season. I want to knit something that is flattering immediately post partum and will still fit when I'm back to normal. I'm considering designing my own since I haven't had any luck finding a pattern that will work. I'm considering making a basic ribbed cardi, but that would be boring.
I would looooove some pattern ideas or ideas to spice up a ribbed cardi.

What about a wrap or ballet type sweater that can be adjusted?

There is a Knitting Pure and Simple wrap cardigan, too. It's plain, but still attractive and their patterns are easy to follow.

Or a sweater that ties would also work.

I forgot to mention that I already have the yarn, and it's bulky weight. (Bernat softee chunky)

I think I have it narrowed down to 2 sweaters, Buttony and Emerald. I love them both but only have the yarn and time for one. But which one?????

I like both of them too - I'm thinking of adding them to my ever growing list! - but going from my experience postpartum, I'd go with Emerald. It seems a little more flexible to me. Let us know what you go with - and good luck in September!

I, too, would go with Emerald~ it's a bit more classic (and having experience putting in a lot of buttons on a cardi, I've come to the conclusion that less (buttons) is MORE :p) and would be more comfy as well, post baby. I know I wouldn't have wanted to deal with all the buttons-I mean after the cardigan was finished~I was so tired all the time! LOL.

Good luck in whichever you choose!~they're both pretty!

I think I will go with Emerald, especially after seeing a very pregnant raverler wear one. It was adorable! Now my next question - how to I decide what size to knit since I'm knitting it now? The designer said to put 3-5" of ease in it, but I don't like that much. I was considering making one for my pre preg size since it's supposed to be loose. Any other ideas?
