:knitting: I'm creating my own pattern for pouches that go around the waist and I want to make 4 vertical slots( about an inch long) to slide a belt or a knitted belt to go through, does any one have a knitting for dumbies idea on how to do this...or should I just knit four strips and attach them after the body is knit?

You don't indicate the orientation of your stitching.

Assuming the belt portion is being worked width-wise

the easiest way is to knit to where the bh will be, drop that ball/skein and pick up another. Work to the next and repeat. By working diff skeins to the bh, with no twisting of the yarn/sts, a hole will be created. Work a few more rows the same way and once the hole is long enough work the next row with one skein thereby closing the top of the bh.

If the piece is being worked on the narrow

like a long skinny scarf, the bh's would be made by BOing for the width of the bh and then CO that number of sts the next row. OR, you could do a one row bh which is bit more detailed but if you want the specifics, just ask.

Sorry I didn't even think about that untill just now ya it's width-wise but I am a complete dummy when it comes to knitting *points to self* is self taught, I understand some things but I don't understand why you would pick up another skein of yarn... if you can break this down (or some one can,) I'd be thankful...

As I previously stated...

By working diff skeins to the bh, with no twisting of the yarn/sts, a hole will be created.

The point at which one skein is dropped and the other is picked up a hole is created at that point. If you just knit across that space with the same skein no hole will form.

Think of the red and blue being the two diff skeins.
