what i meant to say before is,
anyone know where august is?

gmmarton
11-20-2008, 08:36 AM
August is one of those Oddball Blankets that someone has been holding onto for quite some time now. Spikey and I have been trying to retrieve a number of blankets that went to this individual; blankets that others have been waiting for. This includes both worsted weight as well as our preemies.

Just yesterday I heard from this person and am hopeful that all blankets will be mailed back to me as soon as possible. Once I have the blankets in hand, I will check the spreadsheet and mail out blankets to the next knitter.

In the meantime, let's keep our attention on the blankets getting back to CT.

I apologize for the inconvenience to all involved.

thanks for the post about the MIA blankets, gmmarton - I was wondering about a few of them ... I hope they make it back to you soon.

:waving: I'd love a spot on Lemon Drop or Gumdrops if there is still a space. I don't want to take too much more until I'm all done with my gift knitting. But a preemie break is such a treat from the miles of stockinette in the cardigan for my mom!

Thanks, gmmarton, for your assistance. After the last minute trip to New Mexico, I had to go to NYC on 12 hours notice yesterday... Hopefully, things will settle down for a bit soon. I leave for Chicago a week from today, but will have my laptop with me, and just work, no co-workers or family to fight with KH & Rav for my time. :woohoo:

Will post links once it is all finished.

Our first six worsted weight Oddball Baby Blankets, plus three other blankets, will be delivered Wednesday afternoon after I get out of school.

The Child Life Therapist with whom I've been working is very excited about the blankets.

I'm hoping I can get another delivery in before I leave for Florida on December 24th.

Congratulations, everyone! Your blankets are a work of art!

We did it! :yay: We got six worsted weight baby blankets completed and delivered this afternoon to Ms. Anita P. Janson-Bower, Donor Relations Specialist, at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT. My original contact, the Child Relations Therapist, was up in Pediatrics "on call" when I arrived, so she sent her colleague downstairs to receive our blankets.

Well, I will tell you, this woman nearly knocked me over! I wish all of you could have been there to experience her Bliss! She was ecstatic, to say the least! She couldn't get over the beautiful blankets, their unique patterns, and complimentary colors. She kept saying, "I hope you'll be coming back again!"  I told her I would try to get more blankets over there before December 24th. The challenge is on...

Many thanks to those who helped out with these blankets in some capacity. A big thanks to Spikey for her brilliant organizing power.

We have much to be grateful for, especially when we can have experiences like I just had this afternoon. :muah:

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

We still have quite a number of blankets being finished up. I will be starting three more Northeast worsted weight oddball baby blankets right after December 25th when I will be on break in sunny, warm(?) Florida.
The blankets will be:

Candy Cane, done in red and white,
Crayons, done in brown, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and black (3 inches per knitter), and
Butterfly Kisses, done in purple, pink, green, yellow, orange and blue.

If you are interested, we will add you to the spreadsheet. Thanks, everyone!

What a great delivery story! I am so grateful to be a part of this project and a part of this giving group.

:waving: I'm ready for Think Pink, Lisa - I pm'd you my address.

I got Gumdrops from bobi on ravelry - it is so cheerful and pretty! I can't wait to add a section.

I'd love a spot on Butterfly Kisses and/or Candy Cane - anything after Christmas!

And with the needle left from Heathers, I'd love to start another - if I can wait until after the holidays. I'm thinking something with a New Years theme - maybe brights, blues, and whites? Any thoughts?

Hope everyone had a safe, tasty, and wonderful holiday, too:mrgreen:

I'm on the road, again...

but I've brought enough yarn with me to start three new preemie blankets!

Citrus Sunshine is citrus colors, yellow, orange, green, and pink grapefruit.

Cotton Candy is cotton candy colors, white, pink, blue, and lavender.

Cherry Berry is taken from the name of the yarn. A Bernat Baby Jacquard in bright pink, light pink, and white. We can add cherry red, too.

Who's in? :knitting::guyknitting:

Hi Karen, and welcome! We LOVE having new folks join our group. :grphug:

If you look on the main Charity Knitting page (http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=29) there are stickies that include a list of instructions, FAQs, tips, etc. Read through these and, if you are still interested, please send me a private message with your name and address. We'll get you added to a blanket right away. :cheering:

Also, since this is a public forum, I'd recommend editing out your email address from your post...don't want you to be spammed.

Spikey, where are you getting all of this great yarn? Please say "online" because I would love to get some!

I usually get my yarn from Jo-Ann or Michaels. The Bernat Baby Jacquards are new but should be pretty easy to find on their website (for Jo-Ann) or at their stores.

If you have any trouble finding these, let me know, and I'll pick up a bunch and send it to you.

suziehomemaker,

I received Forest Greens today and the lovely little notepads and card too! Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness! I am a list person so those will come in handy.

I went to Michael's and bought my yarn for this today and discovered that greens are hard to coordinate! Anyway, I'll do the last section in one green and then the border in the other. Being an oddball blanket, I guess the colors don't have to really go together.

Thanks again!

We just got power back after being without since Thursday night. No water, heat or electricity! A real adventure. I did, however, get to spend some time knitting on Forest Greens during the daylight hours.

We are a little behind here and have quite a mess to clean up, so if the lavender one could hold off maybe until after Christmas, that would be great. Or if someone else would like to knit the next section, and then send it to me for the border, that would be great too.

Appreciating electricity, water and heat now more than ever,

I received two more blankets in the mail today from threesmom. I'll be the last to knit and do "border patrol" on Think Pink, an Oddball Baby Blanket of worsted weight. I'm also on "border patrol" to work on Gum Drops, an Oddball Preemie Baby Blanket. Once completed, I will send that one back to Spikey for further attention.

Thanks so much for the yarn! :woohoo:

So sorry to hear about your weather difficulties, MGM! I hope the cleaning up goes well, and quickly, without too much damage to be uncovered.

I'll see what I can do about finding another knitter, otherwise we'll just send it on and we'll be patient!

ETA - suziehomemaker has graciously offered to knit another section, so you'll only have the border to do, MGM, and at least another week before Lavender Sachet gets to you.

Also, Independence Day is ready for its border. You are scheduled to do that, but if it is too much, PLEASE, let me know and I'm happy to find a replacement crocheter.

MGM - I hope the cleaning up goes quickly for you and everything turns out ok!

Spikey - I'll get started on the next section and see if I can get my Mom or MIL to teach me how to crochet a nice border. They're both going to be at my house for the holiday so I'm sure they'd love to help. I'll let you all know how it turns out! (If it's horrible I will definite rip it out and pass it on to a professional Border Patrol member ;) )

Hi Northeasters!

All of the blogs have been updated, and by all, I mean all three.

Yes, we have a new blog (http://northeastcompleted.blogspot.com/), where the knitter lists and final pictures of all completed blankets (baby and preemie) can be found.

The posts in the other blogs were getting too long, so now they will only contain BsIP, and all completed blankets will be moved over to the new blog.

All of the pages have links to each other, and you can also find all of the links in my signature.

Check it out, and let me know what you think!

missyjoon from Ravelry came up with the following ideas a little while back:
Three Ring Circus (all varigated or stripes)
Teddy Bear’s Picnic (browns . . and … ?)
Be my Valentine (reds, pinks, whites)
Over the Moon (blues, yellows, night sky colors)

Any or all of these would work. :knitting:Of course, please feel free to make up your own, as well.

I have a worsted needle and a preemie needle that I kept after finishing up the last two blankets I finished. I was hoping to start a few after the holidays. I was thinking of a New Years theme for one ... maybe New Years Parade? All bright colors, some white? And maybe a blue and white blanket for winter - Starry Night maybe? ... or I could start the Over the Moon blanket since the colors are similar ... Just let me know!

And I love the idea of both Tropical Plantation and Be My Valentine ... I'd take a spot on either!

For preemie blankets, there are still spots on:

I mailed out two new blankets this morning, Butterfly Kisses and Candy Canes, both in the same package going to Spikey. Delivery Confirmation #: 0307 3330 0000 2485 8303.

Butterfly Kisses was knit in Caron's Simply Soft worsted weight yarn, color Grape, on #8 circs. of 105 sts in the double moss stitch.

Candy Canes was knit in Caron's Simply Soft worsted weight yarn, color Red, and Pound o' Love's Off White, on a #7 circular needle of 110 garter stitches. I originally worked in Pure White but it didn't look that great to me, so I used a softer looking white and still got the desired effect.

We're starting another Rainbow blanket!!!

We are going to begin another of the Rainbow series, Northeast Rainbow II, since #1 is temporarily MIA! I would go with 110 stitches on size 8's knit entirely of garter stitch, 4 inches per knitter.

The color sequence would be:
#1 Knitter: Red (started by MGM)
#2 Knitter: Orange
#3 Knitter: Yellow
#4 Knitter: Green
#5 Knitter: Blue
#6 Knitter: Purple

I love these Rainbow blankets...they make me happy! And they knit up so quickly.

Strawberry Parfait was started on size 6 needles with 100 stitches in a DK yarn with soft pinks, soft reds, soft yellows, and white. Lavender Mist is on size 5 needles with 109 stitches in a DK yarn of soft purples, soft pinks, and white.

Please let us know if you are interested in working on these new blankets.

I was thinking of some possible names for new blankets this morning and remembered that the Pediatrics Wing at Bridgeport Hospital is really called the P.T. Barnum Pediatric Center, in honor of Bridgeport's greatest showman, Phineas T. Barnum. (Barnum was one-half of the Ringling Brother's Barnum & Bailey circus that many of us in CT grew up with when we were young).

With the circus theme of the P.T. Barnum Pediatric Center in mind, I will be starting Circus Circus, of worsted weight in bright circus-like colors. Suggested colors include red, yellow, orange, blue, green, brown and even gray.

If you are interested, please let us know and we'll add you to the list.

Thanks! Happy New Year! :cheering: :cheering:

Definitely! I can't wait to work on Tutti Frutti! Send it along anytime. :)

I will be mailing out Rainbow II and the completed Forest Greens on Monday.

The remainder of the storm clean up will have to wait until spring, and our power has been working great, so we're back to normal around here now...whatever normal is!

Thanks for asking,

Rainbow II shipped this morning to threesmom - conf #0492697811076329.

I didn't take a picture of Rainbow II simply because it is just 4 inches of red garter so far and we all know what that looks like!

A finished picture of Forest Greens is on my website here (http://www.hookedonneedles.com/2008/12/crocheted-border-simple-but-pretty.html).

Hi Kathy,

Thanks so much for stepping up and volunteering to help on the Northeast Oddball Baby Blankets. :yay: :yay: :yay: I think you will find this project very fulfilling.

As far as working on blue on the Northeast Rainbow II blanket, that color has already been taken. It doesn't show on Spikey's Blog because the Blog isn't updated every day; however, it is on our spreadsheet. Would you consider working on the same blanket in either green or purple? Both of those color slots remain open. Please let us know, and we will add you to the spreadsheet (and Blog!).

Status of Our Worsted Weight Oddball Baby Blankets:

As of this date, I have, in my possession, seven (7) completed worsted weight Oddball Baby Blankets for the folks at Bridgeport Hospital. I would like to deliver the completed Oddball Baby Blankets when I am on break in February. The completed blankets are as follows: Autumn in the Northeast, Farm Fresh, Boo! I Love You!, Think Pink, Heather, Gorgeous Grapes, and Forest Greens.

With that said, there are a number of other worsted weight Oddball Baby Blankets still out there that I am hoping to add to the completed collection. Those blankets include: Nor'easter, August, Independence Day, Bubblegum and Pumpkin Delight. We are getting close to completion on these five blankets, and it would be so wonderful to have them finished by February. That would bring our total number of completed blankets up to twelve (12).

Candy Cane, Butterfly Kisses and Crayons have their full complement of knitters.

We have a few openings on the following worsted weight Oddball Baby Blankets:

Circus Circus - needs knitters for the #5 and #6 slots;
Seaside Park - needs knitters for the #5 and #6 slots;
Northeast Rainbow II - needs one knitter for the #6 slot to work in the color purple.

Lastly, when I am on vacation in February, I will begin some more worsted weight blankets, including (but certainly not limited to):

Hues of Blues, Vanilla Creme, The Big Apple, Creamsicle, Soft Hugs, and Neon Fun. More information will be forthcoming as we get closer to February.

Thanks for your support! :yay:

so i will start with green, and there would be two other green spots and and two golds ( or variations)

Oh Man! When it rains, it pours! Right now I am working on Tuttie Frutti and I have Cherry Berry right behind it. Pumpkin Delight is on its way to me in the mail. I'm happy to take Cotton Candy, but I don't know if I'll be able to have it finished in the two week timeframe. I've discovered that the preemie blankets take a lot longer than the worsted!

So you can go ahead and send it, or if someone else is looking for something to keep their hands busy, you can pass it on. Either way is ok with me. If it shows up on my doorstep, I'll put it in line behind Pumpkin Delight.

Thanks,

MGM - and everyone else who knits and staffs our phenomenal border patrol team - please remember that you get two weeks to knit the last section and two additional weeks to do the border. Please do not feel pressured to get both parts done in one two week period!

We do not want our precious border patrol team to burn out!

If it's ok, we'll have sarahbean send on Cotton Candy, but it does not need to be finished before the third week in February.

Whew! Now I feel better! I was thinking about just that the other day and feeling like I was going to have to get 3 blankets knitted and bordered in about 2 1/2 weeks! So this makes me feel much less pressure.

I do love working on these blankets because one section is not at all overwhelming and it's so fun to see how everyone's work goes together to make such beautiful blankets.

I've been looking but can't seem to find the pattern for Furrow Rib Stitch and Hurdle Stitch. They were both used on the preemie blanket I just finished knitting and I really like them. Could someone leave a pointer to them for me please? I would really love to give them a try.

The stitch is called Farrow Rib, not Furrow Rib. It is a two-row pattern:

Row 1: K2, P1 across.
Row 2: P1, K2 across.

Of course, if you are using it on our Oddball baby blankets, you would begin with K3 and end with K3 on every row to create a border.

Sorry, I never heard of the Hurdle Stitch, but I bet you can find it on the Web.
