Hello friendly charity knitters and crocheters!

We work together to make Oddball Baby Blankets for charity. Our blankets will be made according to the requests of our local hospital(s), so keep watching this thread to see our guidelines.

The Midwest territory is separated into 3 groups:
Midwest Great Lakes Baby Blankets - Led by traceleighj (http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/member.php?u=15341)
(Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Minnesota)

Midwest Great Plains Baby Blankets - Led by kellyh57 (http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/member.php?u=11732)
(North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska)

Midwest Preemie Blankets - Led by stagebear (http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/member.php?u=14462)
(entire Midwest)

By the way, I need your help Midwesterners. I've been looking online, and it seems that Minnesota is being claimed by Great Plains sometimes, and by Great Lakes other times. Can you help me figure out where it actually belongs?

If you would like to volunteer to help make our blankets, please send a private message to the leader for your region, and they will help you get started!

Our project will begin in August, so let's start our plans!

Let me know any ideas you have concerning the blankets. Colors or themes of blankets, etc.
Feel free to input anything, we'll need crochet experience on the borders..

I can't wait till more are signed up to start making lists of who to send what to where.

Hugs,

Count me in...just a little. I need to to get going on Christmas presents (well, actually birthdays that are near Christmas!) too!

I was thinking of starting a "Tulip Festival" blanket. I found a few tulip patterns that I was going to try to work out into a blanket. We could do it in tulip colors (just about anything!) and maybe even border it in grassy green! What do you think?

That sounds great! would you like to start our first blanket? I love that idea. Let me know the specifics.

The idea w/ flowers sound so pretty. I hadn't thought of that... I'm so glad you joined our group.

Any ideas for the next one? Anyone wanting to start a special blanket?

i'll be able to start 3 of them since i'm the last knitter on 3 current preemie blankets and will have the needles. snowbear, if your hospital doesn't have a need for them, i'm sure the one here would have a use for the preemie ones.
i'll think about colors/themes for some new ones.

I was thinking perhaps we could do some round robin. We want to keep the group simple, making blankets. Why don't we start with regular baby blankets for awahile, then switch to preemie, then perhaps bigger blankets for retirment homes, or such.

That way we can do different blankets, but have everyone doing the same thing at the same time. I think it would go a bit faster that way, and everyone would be on the same page.

Let me know your thoughts..

Hello Midwest Region! :waving:

Snowbear has decided to step down as leader for the region, so we are now in the process of choosing a new leader. I am talking to a few good people right now, and will post an update soon.

Stay tuned! :muah:

Sandy,
I haven't heard anything out here in the Midwest since it was decided to split up the group of knitters.

Will there be a leader to keep the little blankets going?
It's been several weeks since any little blanket has come this way.

I would say Great Lakes:teehee:

In group organizations, I've always seen it as grouped with the Dakotas and Iowa rather than Wisconsin.

I STILL don't know where to put Minnesota. :teehee:

Right...and momwolf said Great Lakes. :teehee:
So, just like I've seen everywhere else, Minnesota is claimed by both areas.

lol - I had missed her response. I'd go with whatever the Minnesotans say then.
(I guess we differ since she's closer to WI and I'm in ND across the river from MN.)

Well this has been a challenge to find out where my state belongs.:tap: This is what I came up with
Great Plains

The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition | Date: 2008

Great Plains extensive grassland region on the continental slope of central North America. They extend from the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba south through W central United States into W Texas. In the United States the Plains include parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas.

Map wise we are Great Lakes Region
http://uscgaviationhistory.aoptero.org/images/history02/greatlakesmap.gif

In most written information the top half is Great lakes and the middle and lower half is Great Plains. So I'm in the Great Lakes region and Minneapolis is Great Plains. I know I'm no help.Didn't realize the state was divided.Just always thought we were Great Lakes region because we bordered Lake Superior

Shandeh
07-20-2008, 06:17 PM
OK, so it looks like it's Great Plains?

I'll check in the other discussion thread as well, and see what everyone there is saying.

Shandeh
07-20-2008, 06:25 PM
OK....no one has said anything in the other discussion thread.

I just looked at my list, and I wish I could put Minnesota in the Great Lakes region. This would exactly split the Midwest into the same number of states. (6 states for each region)

If I put Minnesota in the Great Plains region, then that region has 7 states, and the other one has 5. :pout:

Would you mind terribly if I put Minnesota in the Great Lakes region? I mean, there was already confusion about the correct region anyway.....so I guess we can put it wherever we want. :teehee:

momwolf
07-20-2008, 07:15 PM
Heck no it will work out better that way cause our leader lives in MN.Like I said I always say we ARE the great lakes region

OK, then it's official.

According to the needs of the Knitting Help Forum, Minnesota is a Great Lakes state.
