View Full Version : Good News From The Doctor

I got a call from the doc. He had consulted with the surgeon, who reviewed the MRI results. Turns out the surgeon says the MRI was misread! The growth hasn't passed into the bone, brain, or anywhere else and is localized to the skin. Very cool news.

I do have to wonder about how an MRI can be misread though. I thought the whole point of an MRI was to get a very clear image of the area in question. I guess there must still be some human interpretation to it.

Still haven't heard anything about the lab results of the biopsy. Doc says they are probably backlogged, but he's still betting on it being a simple basal cell carcinoma type of thing and not anything to get worried about.

That's awesome news.
While MRI's are high tech and offer an incredible view of the body, they are still "read" by humans and most likely read first by a radiology resident and then the attending reads it and amends the report.

Yay! Yep, just like xrays, and cat scans, they have to be interpreted by a human eyes and brain which can be prone to error. Watch House sometime.....

That's wonderful news.

It is disturbing that the MRI was mis-read, but thank God it was figured out before an invasive procedure was done.

Mason, that is great news! :woot:

TBH, I did wonder how on earth a tumor could invade your skull and not be painful. Usually tumors that destroy bone are excruciating, is what I've heard. I mean, we know you are tough, but SHEESH!

That is terrible that you had to be so worried (ahem, and all of us!) for so long. The human medical system moves at a snail's pace. When I get an MRI or a CT scan done on a patient, I have the results and the report that day or maybe the next day (the radiologist's final report, not a resident or guy on the street or whatever).

Anyway, I think that the best news is that they didn't already cut a window in your head!
