Tempting by Jenna Adorno help

Okay so I'm trying a second pattern by Jenna Adorno the other one I just got so angry I frogged the whole thing and now I'm trying a different one called Tempting. I am at the point where you connect the sleeves and once you connect the short sleeves it says to knit 5 (6, 7, 8,9) inches. I don't see how that would be possible because then wouldn't that put the sleeves really like. I knit the short sleeves for 4 1/2 inches and 9 more inches wouldn't be good for that. When I do long sleeves it's 18 inches up to the under arm. So if someone can give me some clarification please I would appreciate it.

There's a Tempting 2 KAL in that forum. The patterns are similar, perhaps some of the posts there will be helpful. I believe you're connecting the sleeves at the the underarm, and the knit 5 (6, 7, 8, 9)" will be the shoulder yoke for the upper part of the body, not just the sleeves.
