Thinking ahead to Christmas, I recently went looking for a wine bottle gift bag pattern and was surprised that after several searches I couldn't find a design that appealed to me. Mostly, I didn't care for the ways the tops were handled, so I came up with a couple of my own, using lace stitches shown in "The Knitter's Bible." What I like about these stitches is that the holes for the ties are part of the patterns. On the left is Norwegian Fir and on the right is Horseshoe Lace. These were knitted on No. 4 needles with Red Heart Knitting Worsted that I had left over from another project.

I hope I've done this photo thing correctly. I thought an actual picture would appear above but apparently only the link to my "flickr" image is supposed to show.

Now I would like to find patterns for tiny Christmas stockings or other pretty miniature ornaments to attach to the ties. Any suggestions?

Oh, I love them! I know what you mean about wine bottle gift bag patterns, but you got it just right. Lovely work.

Slim, thank you! If you're still online, can you tell me how to get just the picture of the bottles instead of the whole flickr page?

Jan, thanks so much!:) I did follow your instructions, but I think I messed up when I tried to insert the image into an edit of my thread instead of putting it in when I started the thread. Hopefully I'll do better next time!

Thank you also for the great ornament links!

Yeah, that doesn't work. Just reply to yourself and do the photo that way. You're not the only one who's had that problem. ;)

You're welcome!

Pam, as I told Margaret, my wine bottle bags are just experimental models, but if you PM me I will be happy to give you the best instructions I can.:)

Hi and welcome to the KH:)
They look lovely . They are so pretty and tastefully done . My FIL's girlfriend makes them and she makes some horrid ones lol . Too fussy.
Yours are brilliant . Nice work :)

Rita, thank you! I know what you mean about fussiness in the bottle bags. In my search I ran across several that were overdone as well as others that were underdone, with no special treatment of the top. I've had a lot of fun dreaming up designs that make me happy, and I'm itching to try a couple more. Now if I could just figure out how to get a few more hours in my days, I'd be all set.;)

I can't wait to see what you come up with next .
You could sell the patterns if you write them down or even put them as a download on Ravelry .
They really are nice :)

I would just like to say that i have been on your site and you work is amazing :) You are a very talented person Cynthia :)

LOL, Rita, I'll be happy to get the patterns written down correctly, never mind sell them or download them on Ravelry!:)

Thank you for the nice feedback on my website! I love doing the large drawings, but I'll have to say that for me knitting is much more relaxing and much less time consuming.:)

:happydance: Can't wait..........add a bottle of sparkling cider or wine and they'd make the perfect "hostess gift" during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season.

Here's another version of the wine bottle bag, with a top in the Leaf Patterned Lace from "The Knitter's Bible." Attached to the tie is a knitted gift tag that matches the bag, with a design motif shown on this site:

http://littlecottonrabbits.typepad.co.uk/free_knitting_patterns/2007/06/knitted_mini_ch.html

This bag (with appropriate wine:cool:) will be a Thanksgiving gift to a family member who requested one in this particular color.:)

I just love it, all of them but the latest is extra pretty. Great job. Are you going to have the pattern available somewhere?

beachwalker

Jan and Rita, thanks!

Sue, thank you, too! I will PM you on the pattern.:)

Below are a couple more pics associated with this latest project (post No.30). The tag (1.5" x 2.25") was just an experiment, and although it isn't perfect I'm pleased with the way it looks on the bag. On the back I used double-sided tape to attach a piece of an index card for the message.

The pattern for the little sock (3.5", top to toe) is from the same site as the tree motif on the tag. The sock is a bit large for a wine bag ornament, so I'm going to try it again with smaller size needles.

Oh my gosh, I love that little tag, and the sock too! How did you do the colorwork on the tag -- is it doubleknit or stranded? Too, too cute. What a great idea.

I love the little socks, but I don't like seaming so I'd probably do some in the round. ;)

I just looked at your website, too. I love the colored and graphite pictures! Gorgeous!

Slim, thanks for your feedback! The colorwork on the tag is stranded, covered on the back by a rectangle of index card for the name/message.

Susan, I so much appreciate your nice comments on the tag and website art.:) Hope the bag pattern works for you. Let me know if you need further instructions on the top.

mks, thanks, and yes, I agree about how cute those socks are. They are true miniatures and so much fun to do. The kids in your class will just love them.:)

Jan, thank you, too, for your comments on my website art! (And thanks again for the terrific links to the knitted ornaments.:) )
