I'm a new knitter and I am working on my first real project which is a hat for my daughter. My stitch marker fell off and I didn't realize it for a while and kept on knitting. Now I have no idea where the beginning of my row is. What should I do now? Should I just knit on and hope for the best? Is there any way to tell? Thanks for any help!

I assume you're knitting this in the round? The easiest way for me to see is I look for the yarn tail (the little bit of yarn left over from when you cast on). When I see that, I know I'm at the beginning.

You can also try counting the columns of stitches; when the column of stitches on the edge of each needle has the same amount of stiches, you are at the beginning of the round.

I'd look for the tail, too. If you're off by a stitch or two, it really won't make much difference on a hat.

Thanks! I ended up figuring out I could just count up from the tail so I think I've got it, maybe off by a stitch. I need to get some real stitch markers!
