Hi Everyone!!

I showed the pictures of the Knitty Fish (http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter08/PATTfishy.php) hat to my nephew and he fell in love with it and BEGGED me to make it for him. I just finished it, and I have to admit that I am in love with it! I don't want to give it away!! :-)

That is very cool! I posted link a while back to the fish hat pattern on an aquarium message board I am on and someone started knitting one right away. I think I am going to have to try one.:yay:

Thanks, Everyone!!

I love it too! I don't want to give it away, but I would never wear it either...I would probably just stuff towel in its mouth and put it on a shelf somewhere... Which now that I think about it - is actually a really cute idea - like in a fish themed bathroom maybe...? Hmmm...

Holly, the blue and green are both Vanna's Choice I think from Michaels, the brown is I Love this Yarn (the one I used on the Camo blanket) and I think the cream is Red Heart because it is pretty scratchy! The only one I bought special for the hat was the green. The rest I already had leftover.

OH MY GOSH! I am making that same exact hat! Yours came out great!:woohoo:

That hat is so cute! I just love this pattern :)

I love all the fishiness of all the fins and the tail. All the 3D effects are great. I like the "live" eyes you put on yours instead of the ones that are supposed to look dead. Much nicer.

Beautiful child in the picture too, but looks like a girl. That is not your nephew is it?

02-23-2009, 10:07 AM
LOL - No, that is my daughter modeling the hat for me. I have to mail it to my nephew in Mississippi! :-) He requested the fish have alive eyes and not dead ones. And, I didn't have any felt, so I just embroidered them on after I finished everything else.

[er, naturally I'd tell my son otherwise ;) ]

do you mind if I ask where you got your avatar?!! It is so cute!

03-01-2009, 10:45 AM
Amanda, your hat is adorable and I love the colors!
About the pattern..can you tell me how to do the w&t? Or direct me to directions some where?
Is it called short rowing?

03-01-2009, 01:25 PM
Hi Jen!

For the avatar, I just did a google picture search for knitting and it was one of the ones that came up. I thought it was too cute! :-)

For the W&T - I didn't know how to do it before this either, but I used the knittinghelp video for it - Here (http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/advanced-techniques). It is called like Short Row with Wrap I think. It is really easy, but I would have to watch the video again to explain it, so you might as well watch it first and see if you get it! :-) If you still have questions, PM me and I will try to explain it! :-)

It was actually a relatively quick and easy project. I made it more complicated by doing all the color changes and stuff, but that is completely optional. Now, I have to find something totally cute for my niece (she's 8). I think she is jealous that she didn't get something too. Her birthday is in May. Maybe a little handbag...

03-01-2009, 01:49 PM
Oh, thank you so much! I want to make this for my grandson the one who is 3, he will be 4 by the time I finish it!
About your 8 year old neice...I just knitted my 6 year old granddaugher an ribbon like material yarn scarf and made pom-pom balls of a matching yarn...she loved it so much my daughter told me (they are stationed in Japan) she took it to school the day after she got it to "show and tell"! So, you are on the right track..little girls love purses, totes, scarf's !! Have fun making it!

03-01-2009, 10:05 PM
Thanks! I think a bag will be the way to go for my niece - her birthday is May 30th and they live in Mississippi, so not much use for cold weather stuff...

I think your grandson will love it!! My daughter keeps asking me where her fish hat is...oops!

gotta knit
