There are some GREAT tutorials on sock knitting at

http://www.cometosilver.com/socks/

The two circular tutorials are for toe-up socks. I'm doing the DPNs tutorial right now and its amazing!

I just saw this demonstrated on the "Knitting and Crochet Today" tv show on PBS. They also interviewed the lady who came up with the idea of using two sets of circulars.
I'm going to stick with the dpn way. I have never just knit one sock. I always knit a second right after the first. :knitting: :knitting:

I recently made my first pair of socks (toe-up, 2 at once on 2 circulars). The pattern didn't use the traditional short rows & gusset though, used an 'afterthought heel' instead which was very straightforward.

Might be an option.
