You need information/instructions on how to sew sleeves onto a sweater? What's the pattern? The style of sleeves can make a difference. What do the instructions say-- do they give any specifics? If not, I would suggest the matteress stitch-- there's a video on here about it.
I use those little claw-shaped hair clips to hold things together and then use mattress stitch. I find it works better to use embroidery thread (two or three strands) to sew rather than yarn. As said before, HOW you put things together depends on the type of sleeve/top you're making.

If your sweater is knit conventionally, that is to say: the FRONT(S), BACK, and 2 SLEEVES...all knit flat, not in the round...then usually here is the sequence of steps:
1) seam the shoulders
2) fold the sleeve in half LENGTHWISE to locate the center position of the top of the sleeve CAP; mark it with a pin
3) RIGHT SIDES FACING, place the center of the sleeve CAP next to the shoulder seam and clip it into place
4) clip the remaining parts of the sleeve to the FRONT and BACK
5) RIGHT SIDES FACING, mattress seam your sleeve to the FRONT and BACK
Here is how I 'clip' my sleeves prior to seaming:

These little clippies are found in the hair care section of your local grocery store. They are meant for a toddler's hair.
