View Full Version : FO : Chain scarf

I played with this idea for some time, and finally created this rather excentric scarf. I made it for a friend who likes excentric things.
Now that I got a cam, I can take some pictures of my other scarves as well. :cheering:
(Oops, almost forgot the link)
Worn, it looks like this.
In case you're wondering, the middle part is where the ends are hidden. Didn't want to weave them in, so I just knotted everything together and crocheted another piece over the original central piece to hide the ends. That part is a little thicker, but generally hidden when the scarf is worn, and wearing the scarf, one doesn't notice it at all.

That's one thing I never would have thought of to do with crocheted chains. That's pretty awesome. ;)

Ah thank you all.
Do you really think it's good?
Because when I was actually crocheting it, I was telling myself "Oh god, this is just TOO simple to be good...."
It's true that it's different, and it was meant to be a stash buster. If you have lots of different bouts of yarn lying around, you can just try this :D (especially yarn you think you'll never get rid off...)
I finished it in 1 day.

I think it is cool too. All the different yarns and colors look so neat as this is worn. I don't quite understand it though. Are the chains attached to each other antywhere besides just at the end, or middle, or do the ends all just dangle freely, rather like long fringe? Very innovative. It has a lot of personality.

The middle part is the secret.
You crochet a middle part (or knit a middle part) as broad as the scarf to be.
Then from that middle part you chain freely, to the length desired (about half the length of the finished item)
If you crocheted, in every sc, you attach a new color and chain for as long as you want.
You repeat this for the other side.
(I did a variation by picking up stitches on the other side (before knitting, do this row: sc, ch3, sc in next, ch3, repeat; pick up every ch3 with knitting needle) and knitting for a bit, then switching back to crochet)
For this scarf, on one side, the chains dangle freely. On the other side, I have attached them twice, with transversal chain. I think it's visible on the pictures.

That helps! Thanks for the explanation.
