This is a blanket that I made for Amy, Sheldon and little Erin. I haven't been able to load pix for a while, so here we go. I got the patterns from The Beatrix Potter Knitting Book by Pat Menchini, except for the Mama knitting. I made that one. I HAD to have knitting in there, somewhere.

Thanks, everyone. It didn't take that long because it was so much fun to make. I played with the layout a while because it was going to just have Mrs. Tiggywinkle on it, but as I looked at all the patterns in the book, I changed my mind.

It was made in one piece and the back is plainer with a basic pattern of the squares on the front and little knitted footprints in the center.
The back was very necessary since the back side of the intarsia is very messy.

I appreciate everyone comments sooo much.

I bought the book online, so if you're interested in buying it, it's out there.

That is absolutely the cutest baby blanket that I have ever seen! And the knitting is fantastic. Can you post a picture of the back?

Ingrid

I have one picture of the back, and a not-so-good close up of the baby feet.

Thanks for the 'back' pics. That would be a great baby afghan on its own! One more question: Did you tack the two sides together in any other places than the border?

I did tack the front and back together, I believe just at the corners of the different motifs. It's only been a few months, and there's a lot I don't remember about this. :??:aww:

Is it double knit? Or did you knit a back piece and then seam it together?

Oh..I see you tacked the back on, but not sure how it was made.

Ingrid

Thank you, everyone!

Jan--I knit the back separately and then picked up both stitches from the front and back and knit the border. In fact, I had made almost a complete log cabin-type back, but didn't like it, so I started over. Figuring out what to do with the back was harder than deciding on the front!

Lovely work, Ingrid! All that intarsia is such a lot of work, but produces such a stunning, one of a kind FO. It's nice that it is going to a good home where knitting is appreciated.

Your intarsia motifs are adorable. My favorites are the big bunny head, the guy with the hat just next to the big bunny face and the lady bug. It's good that you worked knitting into it.

Wonderful gift!!

Wow. I logged in expecting the usual posts and found your blanket. I'm in awe. :notworthy: It's beyond amazing. You even did Mama knitting on your own. I'm glad this thread got bumped and I got to see your work of art. Such a lovely way to start my day.

Ingrid, I missed this original post too. What a lovely blanket! It's so much fun looking at the knit versions of the drawings from those wonderful books. I read them to my children so many times that we could recite them. Beautiful work.

Thanks, everyone. I always loved the Beatrix Potter books, too, so I was thrilled to find the book with the charts. I was happy to make it for Amy and Sheldon, too, since I knew it would be appreciated.

Actually Amy and Sheldon are the owners of this site. I made it for their daughter Erin. :aww:

I get it now. I haven't been on this site too much in the last few months and forgot that Amy & Sheldon are the ones that host the site. I was thinking in my mind how are three children going to share this blanket and just knew they would fight over it. :) Now I feel so dull.

These are gorgeous - well done! I visited the World of Beatrix Potter in the Lake District last October. It's a great place for a visit, although I didn't see a knitting book there.
