I've been a knitter for some time but this pattern has got me confused on my first row. It's a baby sweater. The instructions are cast on 147 1st row (rs) K1, yon, *K5, slip the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th sts over the 1st st, yon, rep from * to last st, K1. After this you'll have 61 sts on your needle. What do they mean by slipping the sts over the 1st st. Can someone please help. Thanks.

You're passing the stitches over the first stitch as you do when you bind off or a psso decrease. It's for a scalloped edge, right?
Once you knit the stitches, you'll have 1 2 3 4 5 on your right tip.
Pass stitches 2 3 4 5 up and over stitch 1 and off the needle.

Thanks Ingrid for your instruction and quick response. It makes sense to me now and worked beautifully. Yes it's a scalloped edge. I've never done one before. Always learning!
