I was trying to find some glossy silk yarn and then I found "6-strand silk yarn" from a knitting pattern (http://www.besthandknitting.com)and yarn shop. it says - 6 strand of silk floss winded together to make a fingering weight yarn. I have never used this type of yarn. I am wondering if they can be used as normal yarn?

Sure, it's something like '6 ply' yarn where there's 6 strands wound together. That's not the same as 6 ply weight yarn, which would be a little thicker than fingering.
