View Full Version : What's your favorite yarn?
I have been working with Lion Brand's Boucle, and at first I hated it, but now that I've finished my first project with it, I have really started to see the light. I love the way it looks when it's finished, almost like it's been felted very lightly, and it feels absolutely marvelous. It's still not my favorite to knit with, but I suspect that'll change the more I work with it!
I'm also a big fan of Lion's Homespun. I'm using it to crochet a big afghan, and it's the warmest and most comfy yarn I've used so far. I just love the weight of it when it's sitting in my lap.
What is your favorite yarn you've ever worked with, and why? Share a pic, if you have one, of a project you've done in it!

In my opinion, the choice of yarn always depends on what you want to do.
Some scarves or shawls are best done in pure wool, other in some silky blend,...
It depends on how it should be worn, or when.
I don't have any favourite yarn.

Personally I don't like LB Homespun or any boucle yarn. Knitting is a fun, but a lot of work and I want my stitches to show. If I were to use one of those I'd crochet. I like most any soft, smooth yarn so I can't really choose. I can't wear wool so I tend to stay with cotton and blends.

I don't really have a favorite yarn. I will use whatever yarn I want for a project as long as it is very soft to the touch and will not scratch or irritate the skin. I have a lot of Lion Brand Microspun yarn as I love working with it. It is very soft and works well. I just recently got some mulberry silk for a song on eBay which I plan on using to make a knitted doily. I also have some Caron Simply Soft, some alpaca which I haven't figured out yet. Softness is the key for me and type or brand isn't .

I don't really have a favorite, either. I like soft yarns over rough ones, and I tend to find mohair difficult to work with. Some boucles are better than others. Not having a favorite really makes yarn shopping difficult (or easy, depending on your perspective).

Hm, I have to say I don't like merino quite much. It can be a pain.
The same goes for mmmmmm... unfortunately, it felts and pills so quickly...

So true! It does pill! It will felt quickly! One of my sweater pieces almost got a bit 'felty' on me, just from swishing it around in the (by hand) wash and rinse water just prior to blocking!
But, I do so love the feel of knitting it, and the feel of wearing it.
I knit Malabrigo sweaters that ARE NOT going to be everyday sweaters. Just wear it to church, come home and take it off!
So the cream color is just perfect for that!
I made some Malagrigo bed jackets last year, and I've worn them to pieces! Needless to say, they are pilly all over the place. They look pretty pathetic!
I placed an order from KnitPicks this week, and got that 'pill remover' thingy. I hope it helps me to clean up my sweaters!

It starts felting on the needles for me... really sad, it's such a wonderfully soft yarn...

I don't have a lot of yarn experience, but I started a swatch for a poncho last night with Cascade 220 and thought to myself, "I love this yarn." Every time I have used it, I really enjoy it. I also like any Knit Picks yarn I have tried. Lion Homespun and other boucle, I avoid. I wanted to love it, but alas, I don't like that I can 't see my sts and that it unravels when cut.
