Yay...another finished project!!

This is Frog Prince, an Alan Dart pattern, from the March 2009 Simply Knitting magazine.

He was a special request. My daughter has a friend at school whose dad was diagnosed with cancer recently. My daughter asked his mom if there was anything I could do...knit a hat (for hair loss during chemo) or anything. The mom requested a frog. The kids at church have been taught that an acronym of frog is Fully Rely On God.

I had eventually planned on making this for a teacher, so it was the first thing that came to mind. I'll be making another one in the spring, so it was good practice too!

I used Vanna's Choice in Dusty Green (less than 1/2 skein) and Olive (about 1.2 skeins). The crown is made of I Love This Yarn in Buttercup. I used I Love This Yarn in Forest for the mouth and quadrupled black bamboo yarn for the eyes (I did the last row in the black and tied off with the black before seaming to get the pupils).

I've never been able to seam properly, but I found this (http://mochimochiland.com/weblog/2008/03/mattress-stitch-tutorial-for-toys/) site, which helped me tremendously.

In case you're wondering, he measures 10" from top to bottom and 8 1/2" when measuring across the back legs.

I will say that I'm surprised at how easy it was. I learned a lot while doing this and have more confidence with the seaming and chain stitching (embroidery). That is one thing I enjoy about knitting...learning from each project...as well as the joy in giving.

Oh, and by the way, the dad has been given an excellent prognosis. Thankfully, the doctors caught the cancer early. Yay!!

Thanks for looking!!

Well, the instructions did say to stuff him firmly!

Besides that, he's been indulging in the leftover Halloween candy I had around the house! :teehee:

Thanks, all, for the wonderful, sweet comments.

The feeling of joy from knitting something like this is what makes me keep on doing it.

One of my friends asked how I could bear to part with my projects, and I told her that they don't feel like they belong to me since I make them with the intent of giving them away. That sense of purpose makes my gifts easy to say goodbye too.

Isn't making toys fun? I made a simple round ball for my DGD, she still loves it, at three. All together, made five of them for different friends at work, it was fun matching the colors to the babies rooms.

That's one of the cutest frogs I've ever seen, and I love the acronym.
