Presently, I make all my socks from the top down because each time I have made them from the toe up the bind off is not sretchy enough or it looks sloppy. It's just to much work to remove the bind off and redo it.

Being the perfectionist that I am, I have to unravel and make them from the top down because I know I won't wear them otherwise or gift them to someone until I am satisfied with their appearance.

I think that I would prefer to make them them toe up, but the cast off question is holding me back.

Do any of you have a for sure cast off that you can swear by?

Another thing; pattern designers are so good about including information about other techniques (guage, yarn weight, amount etc.) used, why don't they tell us what cast on or cast off methods they use for their design. I think I've seen it included once.

I tried this one

It was the one suggested on a toe up sock I did using this pattern

I do most of my socks toe up. This allows me to use all the yarn. Which means I dont have more stash.

I too am a perfectionist with my knitting and I battled with this same question untill I developed my own variation of EZ's sewn bind off. This is the method i use for all of my toe ups now. Stretchy, pretty, and uniform. And theres no way to get it too tight. These were all the issues i had. I was fed up and fiddled with it till i had something i could use. I wanted to have something that wasnt sewn, so i wouldnt have to guess as to how much yarn i needed for bind off. But that didnt happen, Im still working on that.

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abBhe-JYmgI&feature=channel) is another bind off that i recently heard about that i might try on my next pair. I heard the apperance isnt the best tho. I dont know, Ive not tried it yet. But im always up to trying new ways to doing things...you never know, it might work better than what you were doing right???

Anyway, I hope many more people answer, it will be interesting to see what everybody does for their toe ups.

I'm a total fan of EZ's sewn cast off. I exclusively knit toe up socks now and use it on every pair.

Lissaplus2, can you tell us what your variation of EZ's method is? Or is that not allowed here? I'd like to know. Thanks.

Hi, Lissa! :waving:

Thanks for posting this super stretchy bind off video. I found this awhile back and absolutely SWEAR BY IT!!! It's wonderful. It handled any problem I had with binding off toe-up socks or fingerless gloves or actually any piece I was knitting. I even used it to bind off the pieces of a sweater so that when I picked up stitches for the neck I wouldn't have a problem with the neck opening being too tight.

I'd recommend it to anyone!

Happy Knitting,

Ruthie
